Job Summary: The industrial Hygienist role at Criterion is responsible for performing project work with a high degree of independence. This role employs a thorough understanding of regulations and best practices in your technical focus areas, and you may provide guidance and direction to less experienced colleagues. This role is able to perform a variety of tasks, and as you grow at Criterion you will either focus on honing you technical skills in the field, or learn and begin to apply more project and people coordination skills. As you grow in your role, you will continue to receive additional training, licenses, more complex work assignments, and increases in pay commensurate with your level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • At least two of the following three responsibilities:
    • Moderately complex individual contributor work with a high degree of independence (e.g. coordination with on-site contractors)
    • Providing on-the-job training and support to less experienced Industrial Hygienists
    • Project support-assist project manager (limited complexity)
  • Contributes to on-site training of other Industrial Hygienists.
  • Contributes to data analysis, final report preparation, and begins to engage and guide clients on technical issues.
  • Performs Asbestos Project Inspector (API) duties in the City of Philadelphia for Major Projects including visual inspections and air monitoring.
  • Conducts comprehensive asbestos surveys of medium to high difficulty.
  • Conducts lead inspections and risk assessments.
  • Develops fungal remediation work plans with recommendations.
  • Conducts industrial hygiene surveys.
  • Complex water sampling events (i.e. VAMC, legionella and HPC)
  • Conducts universal waste surveys (PCBs in ballasts, mercury in light tubes, freon, etc.).
  • Assists/Trains Entry Level and Level I Industrial Hygienists with post-abatement/pre-encapsulation visual inspections.
Requirements:

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 1.5+ years related experience performing work of increasing complexity
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact with clients professionally and with confidence

Required Education, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Possess the experience commensurate to qualify for the City of Philadelphia Certified Asbestos Project Inspector (API)
  • Asbestos Investigator (AI)
  • Asbestos Building Inspector Certification
  • Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Certification
  • Lead RRP
  • Lead Dust Sampling Technician
  • NIOSH 582
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with current driverโ€™s license and proof of insurance

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline
  • Member of Asbestos Analyst Registry (AAR)
  • Philadelphia Lab License
  • Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor

Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain all needed PA Act 114 clearances (PA State Criminal History Background Check, Federal Criminal History Report and PA Child Abuse Clearance).

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • This position may require standing, sitting, reaching, crawling, climbing, and squatting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate/wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the day
  • Ability to withstand high and low temperatures on-site
