WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
  • Supervise payroll related activities of the team to ensure payroll is delivered correctly and timely
  • Review staffing to ensure appropriate coverage for all payroll tasks and processing
  • Ensure special payrolls are processed timely and correctly, such as bonuses, special payments, and taxable cash and non-cash fringe benefits
  • Hire and train team members toward the achievement of department, company, and personal goals
  • Ensure SOX Controls are maintained and there are no gaps in control measures
  • Assist management in implementing quality control measures
  • Conduct direct reports' annual performance evaluations
  • Conduct reconciliation, review, and audit of payroll records; escalate unresolved items timely
  • Update and maintain outstanding items list for effective communication to leadership
  • Point of contact for issue escalation and complex employee pay concerns
  • Initial point of research for changing payroll laws and how they apply to the employee base
  • Actively participate in team meetings and bringing new payroll topics to the team; share relevant knowledge
  • Communicate and resolve issues for Human Resources, Accounting and other departments as needed
  • Act as a liaison between company and unions when necessary
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of payroll information and data files
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING
  • CPP certification required
  • Minimum 7 years of payroll experience, multi-state, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, garnishments, payroll tax and regulatory reporting
  • Must have experience in an organization with greater than 5,000 employees
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills
  • Union experience preferred
  • Strong work ethic and team player
  • Strong customer service skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Advanced EXCEL skills
  • Ability to work without supervision and take initiative in areas of responsibility.
  • Minimum of 2 years office environment experience
