Job description

Overview
United Community is seeking a highly skilled Senior Enterprise Risk Officer to support the strategy, enhancement, and execution of the Bank's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program. This role is responsible for leading the design and execution of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program for assigned business units and serving as the enterprise expert consulted on risk assessment matters across the bank. The Senior Enterprise Risk Officer will provide guidance, challenge, training, and analytical support to first- and second-line functions, while ensuring strong alignment with strategic objectives, regulatory expectations, and ERM program standards.
What You'll Do
  • Evaluate and monitor applicable risks across designated business areas and ensure RCSAs and other risk assessments-such as those for new products and services-appropriately reflect risks and controls.
  • Collaborate with business units to recommend improvements and ensure alignment with UC's strategic objectives and risk appetite.
  • Support the Director of ERM and KRI dashboard owners in developing, maintaining, and reporting Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), including risk appetite measures, targets, tolerances, and limits.
  • Manage the KRI Action Plan process and lead documentation efforts including root-cause analysis and industry benchmarking.
  • Monitor enterprise issues management systems, generate detailed reporting for stakeholders, and provide effective challenge.
  • Enhance risk reporting processes supporting enterprise risk appetite and executive/board-level risk reporting.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and presentations for the Enterprise Risk Committee, Risk Management Committee, and Board Risk Committee.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of Risk Management policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Serve as a key liaison between ERM and the Data Governance Program, supporting governance design and reporting practices.
  • Provide system administration support and design for Enterprise Risk and Control Governance system modules.
  • Engage in special projects or other assignments as directed by the Director of Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Promote United Community Bank's culture and values.
  • Complete all required compliance training including BSA/AML.
  • Other duties as assigned (job responsibilities may change at any time).

Requirements For Success
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • Previous risk and control self assessment experience required
  • 10+ years of relevant risk management experience (Enterprise Risk, Operational Risk, and/or Internal Audit).
  • Experience improving, standardizing, and automating risk and control processes and metrics.
  • Strong understanding of banking risk management principles, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Direct experience developing and/or executing risk and control assessment programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide credible challenge, escalate issues early, and simplify complex topics.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into concise verbal and written summaries.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with working knowledge of data analysis tools and statistical techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and BI tools.
  • Highly motivated, deadline-driven, and results-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
