About this opportunity:

Ball State University is seeking a part-time, non-tenure-track position for an Instructor of English to teach 1-3 classes Fall 2026 semester in our award-winning writing program. This position will be a one-semester contract with possibility of renewal.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Please note that applications will remain active for one year. Therefore, if you apply for this position, you may not hear from the department until there is a need to hire an instructor.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Description:

Ball State University is seeking a part-time, non-tenure-track position for an Instructor of English to teach 1-3 classes Fall 2026 semester in our award-winning writing program. This position will serve a Fall 2026 term with possibility of renewal dependent upon enrollment need and funding availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach 1-3 classes Fall 2026 semester in our award-winning writing program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or related field from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.

  • One year experience teaching writing at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABD or terminal degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or related field from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.

  • Three or more years' experience teaching writing at the college level; experience with teaching or scholarship in one or more of these areas:

  • Creative Writing, English Education, Literature, Linguistics, African American Studies, and/or Diverse or Global Rhetorics.

Compensation:

Compensation for the Fall 2026 semester will be $3,500 per class.

Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.
