Engineering Project Specialist II
Key Details

  • Location: Virginia Beach, VA 23464

  • Duration: 1-year contract
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard first-shift business hours
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Compensation: $26.00 – $29.00 per hour
  • Employment Type: W2 only (not open to C2C, 1099, or work visa sponsorship)

Position Overview
The Engineering Project Specialist II functions as a Resident Engineer, delivering reactive and proactive technical support to ensure customer satisfaction and network performance. This role requires strong alignment of technical solutions with business needs, while supporting network stability, operational efficiency, and long-term customer success.
Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct network discovery sessions to gather requirements and assess current infrastructure.
  • Analyze organizational processes to support scalable and reliable network operations.
  • Test new network designs, features, and updates in lab environments prior to deployment.
  • Execute implementation and validation plans in live production environments.
  • Troubleshoot network and hardware issues, including tracking and managing support cases to resolution.
  • Coordinate equipment replacements and manage return material authorizations (RMAs).
  • Develop and deliver status reports on project progress and network performance.
  • Lead technical workshops and provide updates, solutions, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Train customer teams on system configuration, operation, and best practices.
  • Support development of network operating procedures and standards.
  • Contribute to automation efforts and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to minimize risk during upgrades and network changes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design, implementation, and support of large-scale IP networks.
  • Strong experience with routing and switching platforms (QFX, EX, PTX).
  • Proficiency in networking protocols including BGP (eBGP/iBGP) and OSPF.
  • Experience in enterprise or data center environments with EVPN/VXLAN.
  • Hands-on expertise with JUNOS CLI and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Mist wireless design, deployment, and assurance tools.
  • Working knowledge of automation tools and scripting (Python, Ansible, YAML, Juniper PyEZ).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to support network upgrades, maintenance, and operational changes.
  • Relevant certifications such as JNCIS-MistAI and JNCIP-MistAI, with practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Juniper Apstra and campus fabric design.
  • Familiarity with Mist APIs and web-based interface tools.
  • Background in automation frameworks and network validation processes.
  • Experience developing operational procedures and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Ability to deliver technical training and knowledge transfer effectively.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with support and engineering teams to resolve complex issues.
