VHB's Structures group is seeking a Senior Technical Bridge/QC engineer to expand our structural practice/capabilities across the footprint. In this senior technical role, you'll be an integral part of the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highway, as well as mentoring our structural team.

In this position, you would serve in a lead role overseeing the technical design of structural engineering projects in our bridge and structures group. The role will include oversight and mentoring our engineering staff on best practices for planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the technical design of structural engineering projects
  • Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
  • Performs quality reviews of team members work for accuracy and to ensure that the production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
  • Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects

Skills and Attributes

  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of MassDOT Bridge design standards

  • Knowledge of structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, Midas Civil, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad)
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of professional experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge/transportation projects required
  • MassDOT/MBTA experience is preferred
  • PE license required
  • BS in Civil/Structural Engineering required
  • Master’s degree with structural emphasis a plus
  • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
  • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $170,000-230,000 and the position located in Worcester, MA is $160,000-220,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
