BRUDIS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (BAI) is a multidiscipline engineering firm providing consulting services to public and private sector clients in the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia region. Since 1992, BAI has provided comprehensive, innovative and effective solutions to our clients' transportation, stormwater, and infrastructure needs.
BAI is actively seeking a Project Manager for the Structures Division in our Columbia, MD office.
Job Summary:
The Project Manager will report to the department director and be responsible for the management, staff supervision, and technical engineering for various structural engineering design projects. Project managers maintain proficient technical engineering skills while also being capable of preparing project scope and fee proposals, technical writing, project billing, and assistance with marketing and business development capacities. The Project Manager will work directly with senior staff, department directors, managers, and marketing personnel. This is a management-level position offering autonomy and a role in strengthening and growing the Structures & Bridges division within BAI.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide structural design expertise and assist in leading our Structures & Bridges design group on projects throughout Maryland and surrounding areas
  • Oversee all design and inspection activity from structural project engineers, design engineers, and CADD technicians, as well as, coordinate design with other engineering and sciences disciplines on a variety of structures and bridge related projects
  • Lead in QA/QC for completeness and accuracy of design work in conformance with company and department standards and guidelines
  • Maintain technical design knowledge and expand capabilities through attendance or membership with various engineering committees or organizations
  • Responsible for project billing, budget management, scheduling, preparing scope and task proposals, technical writing, man-hour estimates, man-power projections, and client and sub-consultant management
  • Serve as a liaison between BAI and its clients and subconsultants through excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Minimum Requirements:
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience in Structural Engineering with at least two (2) of those as a project manager
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Maryland (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
  • Completion of NHI 130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training if NHI 130055 was completed more than 5 years prior
  • Experience working on structures and bridge projects for DOT/DPW projects for state, county, city, or local municipalities; experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and MD County DOT/DPW projects is preferred
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO design guidelines
  • Proficient using Microstation and other structural design software
  • Detail oriented with strong skills in structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design as it relates to transportation structures
  • Ability to manage staff, track project progress, and review and track project billings
  • Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of regional marketing and business development activities
  • Ability to work well within a project team by building relationships and teamwork, maintaining a positive rapport with supervisors and employees
