This position will be with the Bridge Inspection Department.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?
The Senior Manager, Engineer position acts as a critical function to District 3, as the role manages three areas within this capacity: 1) Management, oversight, and supervision the District Three Bridge Inspection Program in accordance with the Nation Bridge Inventory and NBI Standards, 2) Management of the Bridge/Structure Maintenance Program and 3) Structural Technical Support. This role is a second-level manager with various supervisory duties within each area. Incumbent will oversee, supervise, and assist in providing a safe and efficient transportation system by facilitating the daily operations and field bridge inspections and reporting.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities in this position include preparation of detailed inspection reports and application of Federal Highway Bridge Rating criteria, ensure the reviewing and approval of plans and specifications upon project completion in compliance with the Code of Regulations (CFR) and national inspection standards, manage the bridge repair program resources, budget, contracts, and the issuance of work orders. Coordinate and collaborate with the General Office Bridge department regarding major replacement and testing of various construction projects. Research and participate in the reviewing of construction, bridge, and plan reviews throughout the process of development to completion. Facilitate and assist in the design of District Book jobs associated with structures and district planning.

Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have experience in the following:
-Supervision of employees.
-Bridge type section reports and/or scoping reports for bridge projects.
-Calculating and monitoring of funds used for surfacing areas and quantities for various typical sections, surfacing material turnouts, intersections, acceleration/deceleration lanes and guardrail locations.
-Analyzing and performing preventative maintenance needs for bridges/structures.
-Overseeing and preparing budget for cost estimates for bridge/structural projects.
-Administrating purchase orders based on price agreements.
-Performing and reviewing engineering assignments in bridge design at various stages of development.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and eight (8) years of engineering experience, four (4) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer and (2) years of experience in a supervisory/managerial role. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Some field work may be required in varying weather conditions - hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow, exposure to sunlight, dust, and pollen. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, inclement weather, construction equipment and high-speed traffic. Work with nuclear devices; heights and confined spaces. toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, rough/rugged terrain, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to hazardous chemicals, insects and reptiles, loud noises, stressful situations; subject to falls and bruises, subject to irregular hours day or night, call out for emergencies and frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays away from post of duty; extended hours and occasional travel. Heavy lifting: sitting/standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Possible geographic location change.
