Job description

Description

This position is a senior level management position that will lead and grow our Charlotte Office. The Engineering Manager of the Charlotte Office will be responsible for the day-to-day operations including managing engineers and designers, and interfacing with clients to resolve project and technical issues. In addition to managing the operations of the office, they will also be responsible for marketing engineering services and developing new business with potential clients in the investor-owned, municipal and electric cooperative utility market.


This position reports to the Business Unit General Manager. This position does have direct reports.


Position requirements include:

Responsible for employee engagement, performance reviews, interviewing/hiring, work quality, budgets and schedules, mentorship and growth, project execution, client interaction, and business development.

Ability to provide technical review of project scopes, develop budget estimates and prepare proposals

Ability to prepare various specification for bid such as equipment specification, labor specification and relay specifications.

Must have a good understanding of the technological, market, and commercial trends driving the current utility industry transformation.

Support and contribute to a company-wide safety culture by following established safety standards, policies, and best practices, helping to ensure a safe environment for employees, clients, and the public. 

Will be responsible for all aspects of the line of business, including maintaining existing clients and generating new clients.

Must actively support enhancing the Company's overall strategic business vision by supporting the selling and delivery of multi-functional business solutions.

Must have a general knowledge of all the engineering services that the Company offers and be able to effectively communicate the services to existing and potential clients.


Operational Responsibilities:

Provide professional oversight of Electrical Project Engineers, Project Managers, Designers and Technicians

Manage accounts and maintaining long-term client relationships

Conduct career development reviews and identifying growth and learning opportunities for direct reports.

Oversee office resource billable levels, forecast resource needs and monitor backlog to plan for additional resources/hiring

Ensure and facilitate project team collaboration with internal and external team members from other offices and communicate across all disciplines to resolve design conflicts as required

Provide Quality Control (QC) reviews on substation protection and control relaying design, relaying settings, and PE seal for construction design package and setting reports

Resolve conflicts with both team members and clients

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering

MBA, PMP, or master's degree in Engineering Management preferred

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required, and ability to become licensed in additional states as required

10+ years of substation and relaying experience preferred

5+ years in the engineering consulting business

5+ years managing people

Competent in developing and maintaining a strong business network

Competent in researching engineering and design issues and evaluating solutions

Ability to learn new engineering topics to facility business and team growth

Process and improvement oriented

Strong communication skills in recommending engineering solutions and leading teams

Experience with engineering and design programs and software (AutoCAD, CymTCC, SEL Software, Omicron Testing Universe, in addition to others.)

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Construction support experience

Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other MS Office applications.

Knowledge of project management software
