Job description

Overview
At BusPatrol, we're transforming student transportation safety through cutting-edge technology and real-time automated enforcement. We're seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our platform modernization journey-from a legacy monolith to a modern, microservices-based Automated Safety Platform.
As Engineering Manager, you will build and grow a high-performing engineering team, foster a culture of ownership and innovation, and deliver impactful solutions in partnership with U.S. counterparts and business leaders. This role is about more than managing delivery-it's about shaping an engineering organization that consistently delivers high-quality, scalable, and secure products that protect millions of children and families.
Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & People Management: Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, creating a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Organizational Growth: Scale the engineering organization to meet business needs while ensuring strong talent development and retention.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with U.S.-based leaders, product, and cross-functional stakeholders to align priorities and drive business impact.
  • Technical Direction: Provide guidance on architecture, system design, and best practices as we transition from monolith to microservices and serverless platforms.
  • Execution & Delivery: Ensure timely, high-quality, and reliable delivery of initiatives with measurable business outcomes.
  • Engineering Excellence: Champion practices such as AI-Driven development, spec or harness led development methods, CI/CD, observability, secure coding, and test-driven development to raise the technical bar.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Encourage experimentation and adopt modern technologies that improve scalability, performance, and developer productivity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an engineering management role.
  • Proven ability to build, grow, and lead high-performing engineering teams.
  • Experience guiding teams through platform transformations (e.g., monolith to microservices, cloud/serverless adoption).
  • Strong background in backend systems using Python; exposure to frontend frameworks (React/Angular) a plus.
  • Solid understanding of AWS cloud services (Lambda, S3, SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway) and event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization (Docker), and modern DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of computer vision based applications, use of VLM technologies is helpful.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills across geographies.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing future leaders.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Why Join Us
  • Lead a mission-driven engineering team that's making roads safer for students and communities.
  • Play a pivotal role in shaping BusPatrol's platform modernization strategy and execution.
  • Build and scale an engineering culture rooted in excellence, innovation, and impact.
  • Collaborate with a diverse, global leadership team on high-visibility initiatives.
  • Work with modern, cloud-native, and serverless technologies at scale.
