Job description

  • The Technical Instructor/Course Developer is primarily responsible for curriculum revision and maintenance.
  • Technical curriculum may involve electronics, welding, or more highly technical areas such as radio and electronics repair or operation of unmanned ground robots and unmanned aerial systems(drones).
  • This instructor uses a computer to organize and draft a curriculum that breaks a complex subject into blocks or units of instruction, creates graphics, and integrates them into curriculum.
  • Courses may be instructor based, computer-based, simulator based, interactive, or non-interactive.
  • This instructor also teaches short technical courses in accordance with approved curriculum to maintain proficiency and to evaluate and develop new instructional techniques/courses.
  • Incorporation of new curriculum in the teaching process (e.g., develops clarification or examples of application related to the subject matter), development and maintenance of classroom techniques that reflect professionalism and good discipline and enhance teaching, development of alternative teaching techniques and scenarios to maintain high motivation and interest in the subject areas, and while acting as the testing officer, the conducting of test analysis and development or revision of test items.
  • Attend conferences, demonstrations on equipment, doctrine, tactics, training development activities, professional education and training media.
  • Schedules and coordinates use of training sites, logistics for shipping and facilities.
  • Conducts After Action Reviews at the conclusion of training events and submits trip reports.
  • Implements risk management activities in training.
  • Adheres to quality assurance processes and guidance.
  • Supports testing activities by setting-up test scenarios and delivers operator training to target audience.
  • Develops Training Support Plans including lesson plans, media, student guides, practical exercises, evaluations, graphic training aids, visual aids and inert simulated devices.
  • Performs work order maintenance on training fleet and fielded robots.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 50 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizational skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Security Clearance, or eligibility to receive one, is required.
  • Position requires 50%-75% travel.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Five or more years' experience developing and delivering training.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.
  • Must be willing to attend, and favorable complete, a 5 week Robotic Maintenance and Repair Course hosted at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, MI.
  • Must be willing to attend a two week Instructor Certification program hosted at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, MI.
  • Must be willing to present a short period of instruction at an in-person interview to demonstrate ability to instruct.
  • Must be able to complete evaluated teach-backs whereby the instructor provides a period of instruction to the other instructors and lead for the training department and receive instructor certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Specific experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones) that are operated by military units.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Training Development or other related area.
  • Familiarity with Army Learning Concepts and the ADDIE model for training.
  • Five or more years' experience developing and delivering training for a military customer or from within the military.
  • Army Basic Instructor Course certification or other service equivalent.
  • Ability to understand wiring and block diagrams, schematics and technical manuals.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:
This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
