Position Summary: The Electrical Design Manager is responsible for providing both managerial and technical leadership to the Electrical Design team. The role requires deep expertise in complex electrical engineering activities and the ability to manage multiple technical programs, provide guidance on innovative design techniques, and ensure the resolution of conflicting criteria across assignments. The Electrical Design Manager plays a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with codes and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Management & Leadership:
    Oversee the workload and development of the Electrical Design team, ensuring effective allocation of tasks, providing guidance on complex technical issues, and fostering professional growth within the team.
  • Project Planning & Coordination:
    Manage detailed aspects of electrical engineering work related to Lighting, Power Distribution, Information Technology (Voice and Data), Access Control, Electronic Safety and Security (including Fire Alarm systems) for Commercial, Institutional, and Public facilities.
    Develop project proposals, including scope, tasks, budgets, and schedules, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Site Inspections & Compliance:
    Lead site investigations and inspections, providing suggestions and recommendations to ensure that electrical systems meet applicable standards, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Ensure the accuracy, code compliance, and quality of contract documents and reports.
    Prepare and present project status reports, contract documents, engineer's estimates, and collect, assemble, and organize project data.
  • Client and Contractor Communication:
    Maintain direct communication with clients, owners, designers, and contractors concerning project costs, staffing, and schedules. Represent the electrical engineering team in project meetings, providing updates and technical advice as needed.
  • Business Development:
    Actively pursue new clients and projects. Assist in marketing efforts by identifying potential projects and contributing to business development activities.
  • Staffing & Recruitment:
    Recommend staffing needs and participate in the recruitment process, including preparing job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for hire.
  • Occasional Availability:
    While nights and weekends are generally not required, flexibility is expected with the potential for occasional after-hours work on short notice.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role as a Technical Team Leader or Project Engineer.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-discipline engineering design projects.
  • Strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for managing design tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with electrical systems analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS SharePoint is advantageous.
