Electrical Engineer II - Power Systems (DC Systems / Plant Electrical)
Experience Level: 3-6 Years

Work Model: Hybrid (Onsite Birmingham, AL + Remote as needed)

Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer II supports the design, implementation, and commissioning of electrical power systems for utility and power generation facilities. This role assists in preparing and overseeing electrical designs, specifications, and documentation while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA requirements, and regulatory obligations.
This assignment is specifically created to support DC system wiring and physical design, including equipment specification, inspections, acceptance testing, and checkout support at power generation facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Engineering
  • Assist in preparing and overseeing electrical power system designs, including:
    • Scope documents
    • Project schedules and budgets
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Elementary and wiring diagrams
    • Layouts and circuitry designs
  • Perform detail design for DC systems, including:
    • Battery systems
    • Battery chargers
    • Inverters
    • UPS systems
    • DC fuse panels
  • Support DC system wiring and physical design, equipment specifications, and design documentation
Compliance & Quality
  • Ensure designs comply with QA requirements, engineering standards, and federal, state, and local regulations
  • Apply knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards
  • Support inspections, acceptance testing, and system checkout activities
Project Coordination & Leadership
  • Provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating design activities to meet cost and schedule objectives
  • Communicate effectively with:
    • Plant staff
    • Design engineering teams
    • Vendors and contractors
  • Support checkout and startup activities when required
Required Qualifications
  • Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 3-6 years of related electrical engineering experience
  • Experience with detail design of DC electrical systems, including:
    • Battery systems
    • Chargers
    • Inverters
    • UPS
    • DC fuse panels
  • 7+ years of experience using:
    • AutoCAD
    • AutoCAD Electrical
    • CAD Overlay
  • Ability to prepare single-line, elementary, and wiring diagrams with minimal oversight
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design principles, preferably in power plant electrical systems
  • Experience coordinating and scheduling design work to meet cost and schedule objectives
  • High level of initiative with strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle large power generation projects with limited supervision
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships
Preferred Qualifications
  • Power plant or fossil-fired generation experience
  • Experience supporting DC systems in utility or industrial facilities
  • Field experience including inspections and commissioning support
Work Environment & Travel
  • Hybrid work arrangement:
