Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Process Engineer 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for creating basic tooling, routings, and basic process instructions in a team-oriented environment. The Global Service Team is responsible for global Reverse Logistics operations including but not limited to, Receipt and disposition, recertification, repair, rework and recycling/reclamation. The Global Service Team develops efficient processes and programs to ensure Garmin's customers are supported and are back enjoying their Garmin products as soon as possible.
Essential Functions
  • Utilize knowledge of CAD software to create basic tooling, develop basic process instructions, and create routings
  • Attend DFT training and demonstrate understanding of Lean Philosophy
  • Gain knowledge of and demonstrate understanding of ECO implementation
  • Identify and resolve defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques
  • Participate in Design Reviews with senior members of the process engineering team
  • Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor and may be responsible for planning own technical work
  • Apply design standards and procedures using appropriate engineering tools to document and implement basic designs/tasks/projects in an organized manner
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion
  • Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards
  • Assembles and maintains the test equipment and procedures, while monitoring test metrics to identify opportunities to improve throughput.
  • Researches and develops new, cutting-edge automation concepts
  • Designs, tests and validates all aspects of Consumer recertification and repair processes
  • Integrates all equipment components and I/O
  • Designs and develops basic software applications
  • Applies knowledge of production and operations processes to overall design
  • Interacts with automation design team to ensure process feasibility
  • Interacts with design engineering for automated test equipment (ATE)
  • Interacts with the Product Support Service Strategy team to understand service requirements
  • Interfaces with outside teams to ensure all consumer recertification and repairs comply with product design specifications
  • Generates revision-controlled documentation
  • Project manages and collaborates with fellow project stakeholders
  • Conducts training for recertification and repair operators
  • Troubleshoots, supports and continuously improves existing automated solutions

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated capability for applying industry standards and procedures to develop, implement, and document operational processes
  • Ability to learn how to use and apply engineering tools
  • Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debugging

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work or internship experience working in a manufacturing environment
