Job description

Energy Efficiency Specialist

Northampton, MA | Base salary and bonus

Energy efficiency is a growing area as businesses, municipalities, and institutions look for practical ways to reduce costs, improve building performance, and meet sustainability goals.

This is a full-timefield-based role in Middletown, CT where you will conduct comprehensive assessments of commercial buildings for energy efficiency upgrades, identify viable energy efficiency and electrification measures, and develop technically sound projects across lighting, insulation, weatherization, refrigeration controls, HVAC, and related building systems.

You will work closely with the sales representative and customer to ensure measures align with customer needs, budgets, and operational considerations, and are developed into clear, practical solutions ready for proposal, approval, and execution. This role requires professional communication, technical understanding, business development, and real-world problem solving, along with the ability and willingness to learn new technologies in detail and develop projects using those technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive energy efficiency assessments across lighting, insulation, weatherization, refrigeration controls, HVAC, electrical, and related building systems.
  • Gather accurate field data, including counts, measurements, equipment details, and site conditions; document findings using photos and digital tools such as thermal cameras; and record energy assessment data in our system.
  • Communicate potential solutions to the customer decision maker to confirm interest and commitment, helping ensure our resources are deployed wisely.
  • Develop project scopes showing existing conditions and proposed solutions, and complete energy efficiency calculators to support submission by the inside sales analyst into the utility system platform(s).
  • Partner closely with a sales representative to confirm assessed solutions and customer approved measures, ensuring project scope, capital availability, and overall feasibility are aligned between Artis and the customer.
  • Maintain timely updates in Salesforce and communicate in a concise, professional, and responsive manner with colleagues to accelerate project development and support customer satisfaction through practical, well-developed solutions.
  • Support team with input of projects into utility system.
  • Perform project management inspection during construction and commissioning, as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to the Middletown, CT area, or elsewhere in Connecticut or Western Massachusetts
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available for this role

  • Ability to climb ladders, inspect basements and attics, and take accurate measurements
  • Very strong technical assessment skills and ability to evaluate building systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to a non technical audience, including how proposed solutions improve customer operations
  • Self-directed, organized, and able to manage responsibilities with limited day-to-day oversight
  • Capacity to maintain quality and accuracy while completing approximately 400 assessments and project scopes annually
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and follow through on the next steps.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook as well as experience with digital tools and apps
  • Team-oriented with a positive outlook, resilience, and a clear willingness to learn and improve in a dynamic, hands-on environment
  • Requires an in-depth understanding of utility incentive programs in order to validate measures, identify additional onsite opportunities, maximize available incentives for each customer, and support development of viable projects that close.
  • Accurate translation of field data into existing and proposed systems is critical to customer satisfaction and project profitability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in environmental science, business, engineering, building science or a related technical field
