Job description

REGISTERED NURSE SPECIALIST - SUNLAND

The incumbent assigned to this position is responsible for the professional nursing care, health, safety, and well-being of residents of Sunland Center. The Work You Will Do Includes:

Performing direct nursing care functions as ordered/prescribed and in compliance with applicable policies.

Ensuring all treatments ordered by providers are carried out as prescribed.

Serving as charge person in management for medical/psychiatric emergencies pending the arrival of the attending physician/EMS.

Assessing and documenting assessment of all resident complaints, reported or recognized changes in condition.

Ensuring appropriate referrals to providers for residents requiring a higher level of care.

Completing nursing portion of incident reports.

Timely and accurately completing administration of medications and treatments as ordered by the provider, adhering to established Policy/Procedure.

Documenting administration on Medication Administration Record.

Observing for effectiveness and adverse reactions of medications.

Reporting medication variances and ensuring appropriate evaluation and follow up of resident.

Performing quality control protocols on medications received from pharmacy against physician orders to ensure accuracy.

Reviewing MARS when updated monthly for accuracy, correcting any discrepancies prior to administration of medication to residents.

Writing/composing documents in compliance with professional nursing standards, Sunland nursing policies and procedures and integrated services to provide a base of information to ensure quality resident care.

Participating in appropriate audit/survey processes.

Ensuring/giving/receiving reports of incidents, illness, and other relevant data pertaining to resident care with appropriate documentation, at beginning and end of shift to ensure continuity of resident care.

Making notations in the patient charts and communicating orders for diet, laboratory, x-ray studies and other medical treatments.

Completing Active Treatment Plans, Support Plans, as assigned and within required time frames.

For the assigned caseload monitoring and tracking ordering and completion of required lab or other diagnostic test and ensuring test are rescheduled when refused or missed, completion of ordered consults.

Completing required assessments such as DISCUS, MOSES, Fall risk, BRADEN Scale.

Utilizing Professional Nursing Standards and applicable Sunland Operating Procedures in the application of the nursing process including assessing residents needs/issues and environment; planning and coordinating care with residents' input; implementing Physician's orders and treatments; signing off physician orders, evaluating nursing care and resident outcome; Maintaining a safe environment for the residents.

Maintaining the security/safety and health of residents in accordance with APD/Unit protocols.

Providing in-service training to staff in areas of identified risk for individual residents.

Ensuring medical areas are kept neat, clean, and orderly.

Ensuring that all medical supplies are checked weekly for expiration; Immunizations and Insulin's are discarded upon date of expiration; Ensuring that Sunland Infection Control Policies/Procedures are followed as prescribed to manage infection and maintain the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff.

Performing other related duties as directed or required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

Ability to provide emergency nursing services.

Ability to participate in the planning and implementing of treatment for patients.

Ability to conduct individual and group therapy sessions.

Ability to work with patients having a variety of physical or emotional problems.

Ability to observe patients' reactions to medications.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to effectively interview and assess the health care of clients.

Ability to analyze complex reports and determine the service utilization habits of clients and to evaluate the appropriateness of that utilization.
