Job description

Spectrum Environmental Services, Inc. is a multifaceted company that offers industrial plant services, waste transportation and disposal, infrastructure/pipe services, and environmental consulting solutions to the customer's environmental challenges. With headquarters in Alabaster, Alabama, near Birmingham, the Spectrum group of companies brings a high level of commitment toward quality and professionalism to every aspect of our projects.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Spectrum Environmental, Inc. is seeking a highly qualified CDL - Class A truck operator to join our team in the Decatur and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years' experience operating vacuum tankers, bulk tankers, roll-off trailers, and some experience transporting hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Tanker and Hazmat endorsements required.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Obeying and following applicable traffic laws
• Safe operation of tractor trailers and other equipment as assigned
• Maintaining a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
• Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules
• Complying with truck driving rules and regulations
• Reporting defects, accidents, and violations
• Performing daily maintenance of truck (refueling, cleaning, etc.)
• Loading and unloading cargo as required per job
• Interacting with customers in a professional manner
• Performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection reports
• Verifying loads for accuracy
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, to be familiar with not just traffic laws but rules regarding how often they are required to rest, maximum miles driven and the like.
• A clean driving record, with at least 2-3 years' proven driving history.
• Physical fitness, since truck drivers are required to pass a physical exam every two years, must also be able to manage physical workload.
• Hand-eye coordination, since they must coordinate their hands, legs, and eyes to maintain a fast reaction time on the roads.
• Visual and hearing acuity, in accordance with federal regulations which mandate that truck drivers have to hear a forced whisper at 5 feet, have at least 20/40 vision, a 70-degree field of vision and the ability to distinguish the colors of traffic lights.
