Victim Witness Assistance Program Assistant (Part-time): (Monday - Friday; 20 - 25 hours per week) Performs clerical and administrative duties to support the Victim/Witness Program.
Examples of Duties
- Pulls daily reports.
- Sends initial contact letters to victims of crime.
- Enters data to open new cases.
- Notifies victims of bond hearings, continuances, and case status information.
- Escorts victims to court hearings and Juvenile Intake for protective orders when needed.
- Assists victims in requesting restitution.
- Performs receptionist duties.
- Addresses public and professional inquiries.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education & Experience
- High School diploma and three years related experience or,
- Two years of college or Associate's Degree and two years related experience or,
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Experience in victim/witness support service or criminal justice field desirable.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Thorough knowledge of administrative practices, procedures, and equipment.
- General knowledge of and experience with computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Strong skills related to composing correspondence, reports and case files.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions while remaining organized and accurate.
- Ability to be accountable and maintain a high degree of confidentiality in the day-to-day activities of the workplace.
- Strong internal and external customer service skills and be highly professional.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check, to include fingerprinting, and drug screening.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
The work is generally performed in an office environment. Typically, the employee may sit to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, stooping, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. Use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals are minimally required.
