Overview:
The ORNL Research Library is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and tech savvy professional to support and enhance how users discover, access, and engage with library collections and services. This position primarily oversees the administration, maintenance, and optimization of cloud-based library systems and technology; supports and enhances access and discovery; and develops analytics and reporting to inform and support user-centered library services, including research impact. The ideal candidate will have expertise or a strong interest in emerging technology, analytical tools, and user experience who will approach their duties with a proactive and innovative curiosity.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Configure and support the library's systems, 3rd party integrations, technology, and supporting platforms to ensure optimal discovery and access.
  • Continually evaluate and enhance services, emphasizing accessibility and overall user experience.
  • Clearly document various workflow processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and internal and external groups to design, test, implement, and maintain system enhancements and services while working within established policies and workflows.
  • Take a proactive and innovative approach to developing library technologies, systems, tools, and services.
  • Provide training and support on library systems and services.
  • Perform ongoing system maintenance, troubleshooting, and support to resolve access issues and improve service.
  • Continually develop expertise with emerging technologies; monitor trends and best practices to recommend improvements for library technology and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics to support system performance and service assessment, in collaboration with colleagues, including those supporting research metrics.

Basic Qualifications:
  • MS Degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school or advanced degree in related discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of experience supporting or working within enterprise-level systems, with a preference in library systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with internal and external parties to effectively and quickly resolve system issues.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills; successful experience completing complex projects and troubleshooting complex system issues and access problems.
  • Ability to set priorities, learn new skills, and prioritize continuing professional development.
  • Commitment to strong service values with demonstrated ability to exhibit sound professional judgment, discretion, strategic thinking, independent problem solving, and accountability.
  • Commitment to taking initiative over projects, showing accountability and ownership for assigned work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of integrated library software and systems and discovery interfaces, like Ex Libris, Springshare.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating services and systems that support discovery and access.
  • Knowledge of current issues and emerging trends in research library services and systems as well as emerging technologies.
  • Experience with user-centered design and/or user experience (UX) evaluation, web technologies, and managing APIs.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data, bibliometric data sources, and research metrics.
  • Experience with data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Knowledge of programming languages.
