Job Description

U.S. Bank is seeking an Emerging Technology Solutions Architect to evaluate and guide adoption of new AI-driven technologies across the enterprise. This role focuses on identifying emerging capabilities, assessing enterprise fit, and shaping scalable solutions that enable innovation while aligning to enterprise standards.

There are two (2) open roles, with potential focus areas including generative AI, agentic AI, and emerging machine learning capabilities. Individuals hired into this posting may be aligned to a specific focus area based on experience and business need.

This role partners across platform engineering, developer experience, and risk/security teams to evaluate technologies, define architecture patterns, and enable implementation through strong technical guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate emerging technologies such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, MCP gateway solutions, and AI developer tooling ecosystems for enterprise adoption
  • Assess AI platforms and services including Azure OpenAI, AWS AI/ML services, and other LLM-based solutions
  • Recommend architecture patterns based on cost, scalability, security, and risk tradeoffs
  • Define reusable solution patterns and integration approaches (e.g., APIs, service-based architectures, and MCP or similar orchestration patterns)
  • Design and recommend solutions with sufficient technical depth to support downstream engineering teams through implementation
  • Evaluate vendor tools and ecosystem offerings for enterprise fit and long-term viability
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Assess early-stage technologies and translate exploratory findings into enterprise-ready recommendations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in software engineering, architecture, or related technical roles

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Strong foundation in software engineering and solution architecture
  • Experience designing distributed systems and integrating platforms through APIs and modern service-based architectures
  • Cloud experience in AWS or Azure, including familiarity with AI/ML services (e.g., Azure OpenAI, SageMaker, Bedrock)
  • Demonstrated understanding of generative AI and agentic AI concepts, including ability to evaluate tradeoffs such as latency, context window management, reasoning capability, and safety alignment
  • Experience evaluating developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted development tools
  • Exposure to LLM integration patterns, prompt orchestration, or emerging AI frameworks
  • Experience making architecture decisions grounded in real-world tradeoffs (cost, scalability, security, risk)
  • Ability to design solutions and provide technical guidance through implementation (not purely conceptual architecture)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder alignment skills
