Leidos is seeking a high-performing Portfolio Manager to lead the Long Range Sensors portfolio within the Persistent Surveillance Division of the Defense Sensors Business Area. Reporting directly to the Persistent Surveillance Division Manager, this leader will oversee profit & loss, execution excellence, customer engagement, and strategic growth across a portfolio of three programs delivering advanced long-range sensing solutions to U.S. Department of Defense acquisition and R&D customers.

This role carries responsibility for ensuring mission success and meeting financial commitments across programs generating approximately $45M in annual revenue. The Portfolio Manager will be accountable for delivering strong technical performance, operational discipline, and predictable financial results while positioning the portfolio for sustained growth and market expansion.

The successful candidate will lead program managers and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with division strategy, customer priorities, and business objectives. Responsibilities include managing portfolio risk and opportunity, driving execution rigor, supporting capture and proposal activities, and strengthening customer relationships to enable long-term mission partnership.

In addition, the Portfolio Manager will support workforce planning, talent development, and performance management within the portfolio, helping cultivate a high-performing, accountable team aligned with Leidos' values and commitment to delivering mission-critical capability.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of emerging technology programs focused on advancing low to mid TRL sensing capabilities toward operational deployment.

  • Own portfolio-level financial performance, including revenue, profit, forecasting accuracy, and cost control in development-heavy programs.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to Program Managers while partnering closely with Chief Engineers and technical leads to managing technical risk and maturation plans.

  • Apply strong technical judgment to evaluate architectures, development plans, integration strategies, and risk mitigation approaches.

  • Drive disciplined execution in environments characterized by evolving requirements and high technical uncertainty.

  • Support and lead proposal efforts, ensuring compelling technical solutions, executable plans, and competitive pricing strategies; coach Program Managers through proposal development and technical reviews.

  • Maintain strong relationships with R&D, advanced capability, and classified customers, ensuring alignment with mission needs and long-term technology strategy.

  • Ensure compliance with security requirements, including execution within Special Access Program (SAP) environments as applicable.

  • Collaborate with Business Development, Engineering, Finance, Contracts, and Security functions to ensure portfolio success and growth.

  • Develop and mentor technical and program leadership talent to sustain innovation and execution excellence.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree with 8+ years of related experience, or Masters degree with 6+ years of experience in program management, defense systems, engineering leadership, or related technical fields.

  • Demonstrated experience managing a large program or a portfolio of programs with financial accountability.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting and leading proposal efforts, including pricing strategy, technical solution development, and review processes; ability to coach and guide Program Managers through proposal development will be a critical component of this role.

  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver complex hardware and/or software solutions to DoD customers.

  • Strong business acumen, including experience with forecasting, financial management, and operational performance metrics.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.

  • Must be a resident of Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate to the north Alabama area.

  • U.S. Citizen with an active Secret clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct P&L responsibility for portfolios or programs exceeding $10M annually.

  • Experience supporting or managing defense acquisition programs involving sensor systems, radar, or ISR technologies.

  • Experience transitioning programs from development to production and sustainment.

  • Demonstrated success supporting capture efforts and contributing to proposal wins.

  • Prior leadership experience developing program managers or leading multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with experience in radar systems, RF systems, or advanced sensing technologies.

  • Direct experience with radar system development, integration, or testing.

  • Experience executing programs within Special Access Program (SAP) environments.

  • Experience transitioning technologies from R&D to production or operational fielding.

  • Demonstrated success shaping and winning follow-on work in advanced technology or classified environments.
