POSITION PURPOSE
The Sr. Technology Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, architecture, security, and operational management of Visit Indy's technology infrastructure. This role oversees network systems, virtual environments, Microsoft 365 services, cybersecurity, vendor relationships, and emerging technology initiatives. The Sr. Technology Manager serves as the organization's primary technical authority and advisor, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, cost-effective, and aligned with Visit Indy's strategic goals. All Visit Indy team members reflect the organization's "3 Ps" culture - productive, positive and progressive.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Infrastructure & Systems Management
  • Architect, implement, and maintain Visit Indy's hybrid infrastructure including VMware environment, virtual servers, storage systems, and network architecture.
  • Manage LAN/WAN connectivity, VLAN segmentation, firewall administration, VPN access, and overall network security.
  • Perform system patching, lifecycle management, capacity planning, and high availability validation.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation including network diagrams, IP schema, and system configurations.
  • Administer and monitor daily backup operations; regularly test disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
Microsoft 365 & Cloud Administration
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, Defender, Power Platform, Fabric, and Copilot.
  • Manage Microsoft licensing to ensure cost efficiency and appropriate utilization.
  • Oversee email security, identity governance, compliance controls, and data retention policies.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security best practices and conditional access policies.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
  • Lead cybersecurity strategies including endpoint protection, identity management, MFA, vulnerability remediation, and security monitoring.
  • Serve as primary escalation point for security incidents and infrastructure-related risks.
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing and applicable data protection standards.
AI & Emerging Technology
  • Evaluate, pilot, and implement AI and automation tools to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Support responsible AI adoption and cross-departmental enablement.
  • Identify and assess emerging technologies aligned with organizational objectives.
Operations & Support Leadership
  • Oversee help desk operations and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Establish workstation standards, configuration management practices, and hardware refresh cycles.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff to enhance system utilization and productivity.
  • Maintain documentation standards for IT systems and processes.
Vendor & Budget Management
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors and consulting partners.
  • Negotiate and oversee service agreements, contracts, and software maintenance renewals.
  • Develop and manage annual IT budget, including forecasting and ROI evaluation.
Strategic Planning
  • Serve as primary technology advisor to executive leadership.
  • Develop and maintain a technology roadmap aligned with Visit Indy's strategic initiatives.
  • Translate business objectives into secure, scalable technical solutions.
Other
  • Stay abreast of new technology and various operating systems in use at Visit Indy and research ways for staff to more efficiently accomplish their goals using available Visit Indy technology.
  • Participate in ongoing education needed to maintain knowledge base and effectively assist team in accomplishing their goals using available Visit Indy technology.
  • Organize and motivate colleagues to implement organizational goals accomplished in a way that ensures everyone feels a sense of order and direction.
  • Coordinate installation of workstation configurations to optimize work zone efficiency
  • Administer daily backup of all computer systems
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in IT infrastructure and systems administration preferred.
  • 3+ years managing virtualized server environments (VMware preferred).
  • Advanced experience administering Microsoft 365 services.
  • Experience with network architecture, firewall administration, and VLAN segmentation.
  • Experience implementing cybersecurity controls and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience managing IT vendors and external partners.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools.
  • Experience supporting both Windows and macOS environments.
