Job description

If you are looking to begin your career in IT and have a passion for conservation, we're eager to meet you! The Indianapolis Zoo is currently seeking an entry-level Information Technology Technician to join our IT Department.

Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. The successful candidate will have prior experience troubleshooting and repairing information technology systems. This position is integral to the Zoo and the Information Technology Department. Key responsibilities include supporting technical setups for public presentations, diagnosing and repairing IT equipment, and providing front-line support to Zoo staff and events.

This is full-time, 40 hours/ week, position that will require availability for weekends, holidays, and overtime shifts, as needed. The anticipated work schedule for this position will be Sunday - Thursday.

What You'll Do

To be successful in this role, candidates should have a basic understanding of IT concepts and terminologies including computer hardware and software troubleshooting, PC installation and maintenance basics, network connections and addressing, Microsoft Office Suite, software and hardware installation, printer maintenance, and point-of-sale systems. This position also collaborates with relevant animal care and education staff for presentations, tracks inventory of IT equipment, performs preventive maintenance, and assists in budgeting for equipment replacement.

  • Must be 18 years old and have a valid driver's license with a record insurable by the Zoo's insurance.
  • Previous professional experience as an IT Technician or other related role is strongly preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. A bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field from accredited institution is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to operate all computer systems at an advanced level.
  • Ability to descend/ ascend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to perform various tasks.
