JOB DESCRIPTION
BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Gas Controller I/Gas Controller II or Senior Gas Controller at our Greystone location in Columbia SC.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operates natural gas pipeline system to maintain a reliable energy supply, provide economic delivery of natural gas, and protect the safety of company personnel and the public.
  • Makes decisions about operating changes, in response to abnormal or emergency conditions within the system.
  • Uses system expertise to provide direction to field personnel, in pipeline and compression facilities operations, during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.
  • Utilizes system expertise to initiate actions to maintain operational pressures, and monitors system load to balance gas use among supply sources.
  • Coordinates pipeline pigging operations for pipeline integrity compliance and modifies pipeline pressure and flow conditions to ensure a successful pig run.
  • Reviews pipeline procedures to remove lines and equipment from service, while maintaining system reliability and integrity, and ensuring safety.
  • Responds to SCADA alarms and directs corrective action.
  • Responds to unplanned and emergency situations (e.g. compressor trip).
  • Monitors, analyzes, and responds to SCADA alarms, providing safe and efficient pipeline operations.
  • Implement daily and interday pipeline nomination changes and requests by storage partners.

**Please note that this position requires rotating shift work. You must be able to accommodate that requirement if selected as the successful candidate for this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Gas Controller I
0-2 years natural gas or equivalent experience
Gas Controller II
3-5 years natural gas or equivalent experience
Sr. Gas Controller
At least 5 years combined natural gas, analytical, utility, process operation and control (field, paper, water, chemical, etc.) or related experience.
All Levels:
  • Two years' experience in an intermediate-level Gas Controller role is preferred.
  • In-depth experience making operating changes in response to abnormal or emergency conditions within system.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of operation of a Gas Infrastructure pipeline system under all weather conditions.
  • Strong knowledge of Gas Infrastructure Gas Control emergency procedures preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) regulations and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of Gas Infrastructure gas equipment and operations, SCADA and communications, and compressor station operations required.
  • Broad knowledge of operation of Gas Infrastructure gas control telecommunications system.
  • Working knowledge of FERC regulations and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ability required to make critical decisions independently, to resolve operation issues on a shift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and internally and externally
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to interact with others, to communicate clear instructions, and to evaluate results.
  • Broad understanding of operation of computerized equipment and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to prepare reports, using prescribed format, and conforming to all rules of punctuation and grammar.
  • Ability to train and develop less experienced gas controllers.
  • Ability to see objects at close range and distinguish between colors.

Education
Associate (Typically two years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.)
