What is an Emb 120 job?

An Emb 120 job typically refers to a position related to the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia, a twin-turboprop commuter aircraft. Jobs can range from pilots and flight attendants to maintenance technicians and ground crew responsible for operating, maintaining, or supporting the aircraft. Pilots need specific type ratings to fly the EMB 120, while maintenance personnel require appropriate certifications. These roles are usually found with regional airlines or charter services that still operate the aircraft.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Emb 120 position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EMB 120 pilot, you need a commercial pilot license (CPL) with multi-engine and instrument ratings, and strong knowledge of turboprop aircraft operations. Familiarity with avionics suites, flight management systems, and type ratings specific to the Embraer EMB 120 are typically required. Excellent decision-making, communication, and situational awareness are crucial soft skills in this role. These qualifications and attributes ensure safe, efficient, and coordinated flight operations in both routine and demanding environments.

What are the typical career advancement opportunities for pilots starting their careers on the Embraer EMB 120?

Starting as a pilot on the Embraer EMB 120 often serves as a valuable stepping stone in an aviation career, providing essential multi-engine and commercial flight experience. Many pilots begin as First Officers and can advance to Captain positions after meeting flight hour and proficiency requirements. From there, EMB 120 pilots often use their experience to qualify for larger regional jets, cargo aircraft, or eventually mainline airline positions. The skills gained flying the EMB 120—such as crew resource management and operating in various weather and airspace conditions—are highly transferable and in demand across the industry.
