The Opportunity:
The Marketing Communications Manager is a member of the Marketing & Communications team and is responsible for leading the Food Bank's digital communications efforts to increase awareness, engagement, and support for Northern Illinois Food Bank. This role oversees the organization's digital communication platforms, including email marketing, website content and functionality, text messaging, analytics reporting, and the centralized Marketing & Communications Content Calendar.

Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy, this position implements integrated marketing and communications strategies through audience segmentation, content planning, digital campaign coordination, and performance reporting. The Marketing Communications Manager collaborates with internal departments and external partners to ensure communications align with organizational priorities and audience needs while advancing awareness, engagement, advocacy, volunteerism, and fundraising goals.

This full-time position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the Food Bank's social media channels and content strategy, working with the Digital Communications Specialist and internal stakeholders to ensure content aligns with organizational priorities, audience needs, brand standards, and engagement goals.
  • Implement or oversee email campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders, agency partners, and the Marketing & Communications team and provide reports to marketing director.
  • Supervise and provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and development for the Digital Communications Specialist.
  • Work alongside the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy to execute integrated marketing and communications strategies and annual digital marketing priorities across the organization.
  • Maintain, update and support the organization's centralized Marketing & Communications Content Calendar, including communication schedules and audience segmentation across departments.
  • Partner with Neighbor Services, Advocacy, Agency Relations, Volunteer Engagement, and Philanthropy teams to ensure effective and streamlined communication & planning.
  • Support organizational marketing planning by providing audience insights, campaign recommendations, reporting, and communication coordination and report those quarterly to marketing director.
  • Maintain the Food Bank website including updating content, site structure, utilizing SEO, identifying web enhancements, and optimizing conversions.
  • Manage or oversee Google Analytics reporting on website activity, digital marketing performance, and audience engagement and provide recommendations for optimization and report to marketing director quarterly.
  • Train, onboard, and provide day-to-day guidance to the Digital Communications Specialist and future digital team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve communication processes, collaboration, and marketing effectiveness across departments.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, their opportunities for enhancing communications outreach, increasing engagement and contributed revenue, and any risks such technology presents.
  • Assist with all stages of editorial content and production as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience managing website communications, email marketing campaigns, digital advertising campaigns, or integrated communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing projects, training staff, or coordinating cross-functional initiatives preferred.
  • Experience working with online platforms for websites, email marketing, analytics, and peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Experience with WordPress, ActiveCampaign, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Gravity Forms, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, HTML, CSS, Exclaimer, Meta Ads Manager, and other related digital marketing platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Food bank experience a plus.
  • Agency experience a plus.
