JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Teaching Assistant (Multiple positions)

POSITIONS:

  • Secondary
  • Elementary

The Teaching Assistant provides a range of support to students which includes providing direct instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher. 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Building Administrator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold valid New York State School certificate as a Teaching Assistant
  2. Flexibility to meet the needs of a range of student learners
  3. Ability to work effectively with a variety of staff
  4. Strong communication skills
  5. Proven success working with students
  6. Strong organizational and planning skills
  7. Willingness to work as a member of a team and ability to support District goals and direction.
  8. Proven success in working with groups to problem-solve
  9. Ability to follow directives (oral, written, electronic)
  10. Operate in a respectful, responsible manner

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with students in groups or individually.
  • Gathers pertinent student data and provides information to school personnel as requested concerning students.
  • Collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologist, social workers, and related service providers regarding students.
  • Participates in planning and providing direction instruction for students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
  • Gathers pertinent student data as requested.
  • Provides general classroom support.
  • Attends meetings as needed.
  • Follows students plans.
  • May perform student supervisory responsibilities as needed.
  • May be assigned other related Teaching Assistant level responsibilities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The position of Teaching Assistant is a ten-month position.  The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator.
SALARY:
Minimum starting salary $29,600 (negotiable based on experience)
