About The RoleProduction Lead

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Production Lead at our Powertrain & Electronics factory located in San Carlos, California. This role requires a thoughtful and inspirational leader for direct and indirect production staff who are responsible for the production of our eVTOL aircraft's powertrain and electronics. This individual must be highly organized and self-driven while possessing a deep understanding of manufacturing operations' fundamentals of safety and quality, followed by quantity. The selected candidate will possess strong leadership skills as well as the ability to attain results in a fast-paced start-up environment while scaling manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow Powertrain & Electronics Production, a team of highly skilled production technicians, maintenance technicians, and production engineers
  • Responsible for the production of all powertrain and electronic components, delivering on our safety, quality, and quantity goals
  • Chart a course for team members' professional development with a focus on training and engagement
  • Develop and communicate clear expectations to the team, prioritizing clear communication and achieving goals
  • Develop inter-team and intra-team processes to facilitate efficiency
  • Manage continuous improvement kaizen activities

Required:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience in a production/operations leadership role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in electric motor, battery, or complex electro-mechanical assembly processes, tooling, and/or equipment
  • Superior problem-solving and teamwork skills while working with cross-functional teams
  • Passion for diving into the details and providing constructive feedback to the team and other cross-functional teams

Desired:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of leadership experience in electric vehicle (EV) production or operations.
  • Extensive powertrain and electronics knowledge.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $116,200 - $206,500/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
