How much do electronics pcb design jobs pay per year?

As of May 31, 2026, the average yearly pay for electronics pcb design in the United States is $100,705.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $75,500.00 and $120,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Electronics PCB Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Electronics PCB Designer, you need a solid understanding of electronic circuits, PCB layout principles, and typically a degree in electrical or electronics engineering. Proficiency in CAD software such as Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCad, along with knowledge of industry standards and manufacturing processes, is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating with engineers and ensuring accurate designs. These capabilities ensure reliable, manufacturable PCB designs that meet project requirements and industry standards.

What are some common challenges Electronics PCB Designers face when collaborating with cross-functional teams?

Electronics PCB Designers often collaborate with mechanical engineers, firmware developers, and manufacturing specialists to ensure the final product meets all requirements. A common challenge is balancing electrical performance with physical constraints, such as fitting components into tight spaces while maintaining signal integrity. Clear communication is essential to address conflicting priorities and rapidly resolve design revisions. Regular team meetings and use of collaborative design tools can help streamline this process and minimize errors.

What are Electronics PCB Designers?

Electronics PCB Designers are professionals who create the layouts for printed circuit boards (PCBs), which are essential components in electronic devices. They use specialized software to design the physical layout, ensuring that all components are correctly placed and connected according to the circuit schematic. PCB designers work closely with engineers to optimize the design for performance, manufacturability, and reliability. Their work is critical in transforming electronic concepts into functional hardware used in products like smartphones, computers, and medical devices.

What is the difference between Electronics Pcb Design vs Electronics Test Engineer?

AspectElectronics Pcb DesignElectronics Test Engineer
Primary FocusDesigning printed circuit boards (PCBs) for electronic devicesTesting and validating electronic products and systems
Skills & CertificationsCircuit design, CAD tools, electrical engineering fundamentalsTesting procedures, troubleshooting, test equipment operation
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, CAD software, collaborative design teamsTesting labs, production lines, quality assurance teams
Industry UsageElectronics manufacturing, product developmentQuality control, product validation, compliance testing

While Electronics Pcb Design focuses on creating the physical layout of circuit boards, Electronics Test Engineers are responsible for verifying the functionality and reliability of electronic products through testing. Both roles require electrical engineering knowledge but serve different stages of product development and quality assurance.

Job description

Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. The Company's three core products are Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world; Lens Studio, an augmented reality platform that powers AR across Snapchat and other services; and its AR glasses, Spectacles.

Spectacles is home to our hardware products with a world-class research & development team. We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life.

Snap's camera supports real friendships through visual communication, self expression and storytelling. Moving forward, our camera will play a transformative role in how people experience the world around them, combining what they see in the real world, with all that's available to them in the digital world.

We're looking for a Senior PCB Designer to join the Spectacles team at Snap Inc!

What you'll do:

  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to produce industry leading flexes and printed circuit board (PCB) designs from prototype through mass production using Allegro PCB Designer.

  • Design high density PCBs, flexes, and rigid flexes requiring the use of stacked microvias, sequential lamination stack-ups, and fine pitch packages.

  • Create fabrication and assembly drawings.

  • Define design rules, apply them to the constraint manager, design within limits, create artworks, fabrication and assembly documentation, and verify designs prior to release.

  • Collaborate with suppliers on stackups, capabilities, and solving engineering issues.

  • Manage external ECAD resources as needed.

  • Review Gerber/ODB++ data to ensure quality of design release.

  • Drive simultaneous development of multiple challenging, complex PCB designs to meet critical program deadlines.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to collaborate and operate in a fast-paced cross-functional environment including engineering teams, vendors, suppliers, and outside resource management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of post-Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related degree experience in; PCB Layout CAD tools to design high density, highly constrained HDI boards with fine pitch (<0.5mm) BGAs, or Master's degree in a technical field + 6+ years of post-grad experience; or PhD in a relevant technical field + 3+ years of post-grad experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
