Job description

Description:

Optikos is seeking a skilled and collaborative Electrical Engineer to join our Product Development Team. In this broad role, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and support of electronics used in Optikos’ new and existing metrology products, as well as our engineering consulting work. The ideal candidate will have experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, troubleshooting, and documentation, and will work closely with mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams throughout the product lifecycle. This position will report to the Senior Electrical Engineer.


Duties and Responsibilities:


· Create and own schematics, layouts, bring-up, and testing for circuit boards used in optical metrology systems. Functions may include motion control (stepper and servo), laser diode control, illumination control, USB, UART, and CAN bus communication, displays, microcontrollers, and interfaces to various input devices.

· Assist with the development and implementation of electrical control architectures for new and existing products.

· Maintain configuration control of circuit board designs and related documentation.

· Test, troubleshoot, and validate circuit boards and electrical subsystems.

· Support cable harness design and collaborate with mechanical engineers on integration drawings.

· Provide technical support to Production regarding electronics integration and assembly best practices.

· Prepare engineering documentation, including design records, test procedures, and work instructions.

· Participate in regulatory and CE marking activities as required.

· Interface with suppliers, manufacturing personnel, and other internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues.



Skills and Requirements:


· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.

· 5+ years of experience in electrical design, including schematic capture and PCB layout.

· Proficiency with electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.

· Hands-on experience troubleshooting analog and digital circuits.

· Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontroller-based designs.

· Ability to work independently while effectively communicating progress and issues to stakeholders.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

· Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.

· Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to learn new technologies and processes.

· Preferred: Working knowledge of at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Python or MATLAB).

· Preferred: Experience with at least one of:

o HDL (Verilog or VHDL)

o Embedded software development (C/C++)

o High-speed digital protocols and board layout (GHz+)

o EMC/EMI mitigation techniques and compliance testing.

· Preferred: Experience working in a regulated product development environment.
