Job description

Electrical CAD Drafter (AutoCAD)
Location: Irvine, CA
Schedule: 100% On-Site
Compensation: $28 - $38 per hour (based on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a CAD Drafter to support an engineering team working on electrical infrastructure and power delivery projects. This position focuses primarily on AutoCAD production drafting, assisting engineers by converting design markups into detailed technical drawings. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys high-quality drafting work, structured engineering environments, and supporting large infrastructure projects.
In this role, you will also support electrical facility design work, including lighting systems, power systems, communications, security, and fire detection systems, while ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Most work will involve 2D drafting, with occasional exposure to 3D tools and coordination environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Convert engineer redline markups into accurate AutoCAD drawings.
  • Modify and update existing engineering drawings based on design changes.
  • Produce drawings according to established CAD standards, templates, and layer structures.
  • Ensure drawing revisions are accurate and consistent with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to ensure drafting work reflects the intended design updates.
  • Maintain organization and consistency within drawing files and documentation.
  • Create detailed electrical drawings for facilities including lighting systems, power systems, communications, security, and fire detection, ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Create new drawings or revise drawings according to client standards and project requirements.
  • Organize CAD files in accordance with program requirements and company standards.
  • Coordinate drafting tasks with designers and engineers to help ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Perform basic system calculations, drawing production, master specification editing, and assist with cost estimating support.
  • Perform assignments using standard engineering techniques and procedures under the supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Provide direction or guidance to less-experienced CAD Technicians when needed.
  • Perform other duties as required to support project delivery.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree or a minimum of 3 years of related industry experience.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for technical drafting.
  • Experience working from engineering markups or redline revisions.
  • Ability to follow CAD standards, templates, and structured drawing environments.
  • Technically qualified with 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
  • Experience with 3D coordination tools.
  • Competency using Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
  • Intermediate understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure or power-related drawings.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD SDS (Substation Design Suite).
  • Exposure to 3D CAD environments.
  • Experience using MicroStation.
  • Background in industries such as:
  • Power utilities
  • Electrical engineering
  • Oil and gas
  • Refineries
  • Industrial electrical systems
