An electrical drafter develops technical illustrations for installing and repairing a variety of electrical systems, such as communication systems, power plant wiring, voltage transformers, and above and below ground power cables. Duties and responsibilities are to draft drawings by hand, using standard drafting equipment, or by using AutoCAD or other computer-aided design software. These blueprints need to include a variety of technical specifications to ensure that installers know precisely how the system is supposed to work and can take all the requisite safety precautions. Qualifications to become an electrical drafter often include an associate’s degree in drafting or engineering or a technical certificate.
