Job description
The Safety Representative I is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and executing Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities for the Gas Operations Division. This role supports training, compliance, incident prevention, and field safety execution across active work sites.
Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, this position operates as a key safety partner to operations, requiring strong field presence and the ability to influence safe work practices in dynamic environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Field & Operational Safety
- Promote and reinforce a culture that delivers safe workers and safe workplaces
- Conduct documented jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal regulations
- Support and guide field operations in executing safe work practices and job briefings
- Identify hazards and recommend practical, field-driven corrective actions
- Integrate HSE into daily operations and work planning activities
Incident Prevention & Investigation
- Support and lead incident prevention initiatives
- Assist with and/or lead incident and injury investigations, including:
- Fact-finding and root cause analysis
- Corrective action development and tracking
- Assist in injury/illness case management
Training & Workforce Development
- Conduct safety orientation and training in a timely, professional manner
- Deliver quality presentations with confidence and effectively in large group settings
- Reinforce safety expectations through field engagement and coaching
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain and support safety documentation and recordkeeping, including training certifications
- Ensure compliance with:
- OSHA and DOT regulations
- Company policies and client requirements
- Track and support corrective actions, audits, and training records
- Prioritize internal and external customer service in all safety interactions
Qualifications Required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations
- Experience supporting:
- Jobsite inspections and audits
- Incident investigations
- Safety training and orientations
- Strong communication and public speaking skills
- Interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
- Time management and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent follow-up and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Willingness to travel up to 80% within Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Bronx areas.
Preferred
- 2–5+ years of safety experience in construction, utility, or industrial environments
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in:
- Occupational Safety & Health
- Environmental Health & Safety
- Construction Management or related field
- OSHA 30 (preferred) or other recognized safety certifications
- Experience in urban work environments (traffic and pedestrian control)
- Familiarity with utility operations, civil construction, or gas construction
