Department Information: The Advanced Educational Studies Department at CSU Bakersfield prepares school administrators, counselors, and special education teachers. Our programs and services prepare students for degrees and specific credentials required in the State of California for service in specialist and administrative positions that require advanced preparation and special competence. These programs also provide in-service educational opportunities for persons currently filling such positions. The Advanced Educational Studies Department offers advanced services and specialist credential programs in Educational Administration, School Counseling, and Special Education. The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), as authorized by the Teacher Preparation and Licensing Law of 1970, has approved these specialist and advanced services credentials. Position Description: The Department of Advanced Educational Studies at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. 

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.  Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31, 2027.  If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15, 2027.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Educational Administration Program
    • Terminal degree in Educational Leadership (or closely related field)
    • Current or recent successful experience as an educational leader in PK-12 institutions
  • Educational Counseling: Student Affairs Program
    • Master's degree or higher in education, counseling, or related field
    • Minimum of two years working with diverse populations
  • Educational Counseling: School Counseling PPS Credential Program
    • Master's degree or higher in education, counseling, or related field
    • Minimum of two years of experience as a school counselor in TK-12 public school, working with diverse student populations
  • Special Education Program
    • Minimum of three years of TK-12 public school teaching serving students with disabilities in cross-cultural settings for the Special Education program.
    • A clear credential/certificate in the field of application 

Preferred Qualifications (For All Advanced Educational Studies Department Programs):

  • Successful university-level teaching and supervision experiences;
  • Experience with educational technology
  • Record of teaching excellence
  • English learner authorization/certification
  • Experience of online/virtual teaching
  • Experience in a mentoring role with educators
  • Demonstration of collegial teamwork;
  • Earned a Master's degree or higher in Education or a related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching, counseling, and/or school administration in the CSUB serving areas.
  • Experience with state assessments such as California Teacher Performance Assessment or California Administrator Performance Assessment.
  • Bilingual 

Rank and Salary: Lecturer.  Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.  Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.  Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts pro-rated for part-time assignments):

Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677

Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224

Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523

Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211

Background Check:  A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Education Code 89521 Requirements:  Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years, only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. Applicants who reach the final stages of the application process must sign a release form that authorizes the release of information by the applicant's current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.

Out of State Employment: Per CSU-wide policy, all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California.  Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence.

Mandated Reporter:  The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. The person will also have a duty to report to the Campus Title IX Officer information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation under the CSU Interim Nondiscrimination Policy.

Clery Act: CSUB's annual crime report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus centers, such as our Antelope Valley Satellite Campus, and on property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from CSUB. The report also includes policies concerning security on campus, such as alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, reporting crimes, sexual assault, and other subjects. Additionally, a daily log of offenses is maintained and can be reviewed at the front desk of the Department of Public Safety.
