Job description

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Researcher to join their team. The Davis lab (PI, Brian Davis, PhD) is seeking a Researcher to provide dedicated scientific expertise to contribute to the lab's ongoing research productivity. Under the supervision from PI and others, the successful candidate will perform experiments focusing on stem cell research in vitro and collaboratively execute a project(s) with other staff scientists. The successful candidate will also contribute to other projects through assisting trainees (e.g., postdoctoral fellows, graduate students) and faculty members in the lab. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to stem cell research and apply techniques including adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture and differentiation, gene editing in vitro and in vivo. The specific techniques include, but not limited to, cell culture, flow cytometry and cell sorting, DNA/RNA/protein extraction and quantification, histology, microscopy. The desired candidate must have expertise in human cell culture and aseptic handling as well as basic molecular and cellular biology techniques. The applicant with significant experience with adult stem cell or ES/iPSC culture will be prioritized. Applicants who have experience with flow cytometry or FACS as well as basic research histology and microscopic technique are strongly encouraged to apply.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher, you will play a key role in driving scientific discovery by independently leading and executing research projects. This professional-level position demands a high degree of expertise and judgement in designing studies, analyzing data, and may involve assistants in publishing findings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage project timelines, and contribute to grant writing and securing funding for future research. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals.

  2. Plans and designs studies with supervisor.

  3. Collects, enters, summarizes and analyzes data.

  4. Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications.

  5. Performs maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.

  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:   $ 50,050- $65,065

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field OR Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Associate's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required or High School diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in science related field upon starting the position.

  • Expertise in human cell culture and aseptic handling as well as basic molecular and cellular biology technique.

  • Significant experience with adult stem cell or ES/iPSC culture will be prioritized. 

  • Experience with flow cytometry or FACS as well as basic research histology and microscopic technique are strongly encouraged to apply.
