Job description

RESEARCHER TECHNICIAN

University of Alabama at Birmingham 

As a Researcher Technician, this entry-level position will play a pivotal role in supporting team operations within a dynamic research environment. The technician will assist with ongoing research projects in cell biology, biochemistry, and neurodegenerative disease research.

General Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of managers, team leads, or senior technicians, you will conduct routine tests/measures and assist in various research endeavors.

  • Your responsibilities will include aiding investigators or senior researchers in conducting studies and procedures encompassing tasks such as data collection, solution preparation, and equipment setup and maintenance.

  • Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists investigators or senior researchers in conducting research studies/protocol implementation.

  • Performs routine tests and measures following established protocols and procedures.

  • Collaborates with supervisors, managers, or senior technicians to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.

  • Participate in data collection activities and maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and results.

  • May prepare solutions, reagents, and other materials required for laboratory based experiments.

  • May set up and maintain equipment, ensuring proper functioning and calibration.

  • Adheres to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized research environment.

  • Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties

Conducting laboratory experiments, maintaining laboratory organization, preparing reagents, and assisting with data collection and analysis.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a related field. 

  • Prior research experience is preferred but not required. 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Hourly Range: $15.00-$24.40

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required. 

  • Previous research experience or coursework preferred
