Patient Navigator

At Nebraska Medicine, we know a hospital stay rarely begins the way anyone hopes. It often starts with uncertainty, fear, and a lot of unanswered questions. That's where this role comes in. As a Patient Navigator, you'll be a friendly face in a moment that matters-helping patients and families feel grounded, informed, and just a little more in control. This is not a clinical role-it's a human one. Backed by donor support and already showing meaningful impact, this growing program is redefining what a "welcome" to the hospital can feel like. If you're someone who naturally brings calm to chaos, connects easily with others, and finds purpose in helping people through vulnerable moments-this could be something really special.

  • Monday - Friday: 10:00am - 6:30pm 100% on campus hourly position

The Patient Navigator enhances the experience of patients and families by introducing them to key aspects of an inpatient hospital stay, familiarizing them with hospital and unit processes and empowering them to participate in their care throughout their hospital stay. The Patient Navigator provides non-clinical materials and information to patients and families. The Patient Navigator will escalate patient-identified clinical needs to appropriate staff. This role requires exceptional interpersonal communication skills, an ability to work independently and sensitivity for vulnerable patients with medical conditions.

Required Qualifications: Patient Navigator

  • Minimum of one year of experience in an active health care environment and/or minimum of two years of experience in an in-person hospitality role required. Consideration is also given to those with a minimum of two years of experience as a classroom educator.
  • High school education or equivalent required. Strong interpersonal skills and capabilities, along with the ability to maintain a calming presence and work cross-functionally with others required.
  • Ability and desire to interact directly with patients and their families during stressful situations required.
  • Ability to utilize multiple communication methods, and flex communication style to meet different preferences and needs required.
  • Willingness to use provided communication tools for translation required.
  • Ability to work independently required.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information required.
  • A positive and supportive attitude that fosters a welcoming environment for patients and families required.

Preferred Qualifications: Patient Navigator

  • Associate's degree preferred.
