Job Description

Grace is seeking a Senior Technician Specialist reporting to the Pilot Plant Leader at our Chicago, Illinois pilot plant facility. The Senior Technician Specialist will be part of a team that tests petroleum feedstocks and catalysts. This is a Monday through Friday, 8-hour day schedule with overtime on weekends when scheduled.

Responsibilities
  • Operate all pilot plant equipment
  • Prepare catalyst and load into reactors
  • Take daily samples and input data into computer
  • Perform experiments of a complex nature involving new technology
  • Troubleshoot equipment and perform routine maintenance
  • Assist in the developing of test procedures and evaluation techniques
  • Foster a safety-centric culture, fully engaging in all aspects of corporate and work group specific safety initiatives
  • Demonstrate a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement

Physical Requirements and Environment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 12+ years relevant experience OR a two-year Associate or technical degree with 10+ years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with heavy oil and resid materials
  • Forklift certified or willingness to be trained
  • Employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and move 25 pounds, rarely lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work independently according to priorities with minimal daily supervision
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team with a dynamic group of co-workers
  • Familiarity with office-based computer software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
