What are typical daily responsibilities for an EDI Integration professional?

On a typical day, an EDI Integration professional handles the configuration, testing, and maintenance of EDI transactions between their organization and external business partners. This often involves mapping data, monitoring transaction flows for errors, resolving data or connectivity issues, and providing technical support to both internal teams and trading partners. You may also work closely with IT, supply chain, or finance departments to onboard new partners, implement process improvements, or update integration protocols. Regular collaboration and effective communication are key, as you act as the bridge ensuring seamless, accurate information exchange. This role requires balancing technical troubleshooting with proactive process optimization to keep business operations running smoothly.

Familiarity with EDI translation software (like IBM Sterling or Gentran), APIs, and knowledge of communication protocols (AS2, FTP, SFTP) are often required, and certifications in EDI systems or integration platforms can be an advantage. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial for troubleshooting data issues and working with internal and external stakeholders. These competencies are vital to ensure accurate, efficient, and secure data transfer between trading partners, supporting critical business operations.

What is an EDI Integration job?

  • Lead/participate in incident triage and root-cause analysis (RCA) across upstream/downstream systems; implement fixes and preventive controls.
  • Follow change control and release management practices: environment promotions, documentation, peer review, and coordinated cutovers.
  • Collaborate with Epic application teams, integration platform teams, infrastructure/network/security, and vendors to deliver stable integration outcomes.
  • Ensure alignment with privacy/security/compliance expectations (HIPAA-aware handling, least privilege access, auditability).

  • Experience in delivering and supporting interfaces in production (including on-call or time-sensitive support).
  • Ability to produce clear integration documentation (interface specs, mapping documents, support runbooks).
  • Hands-on experience with Git for version control, deployment orchestration, and code collaboration (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available
  • Ability to travel 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • On-call/support rotation (as needed)
  • Off-hours cutovers during releases/go-lives
