Edi Analyst Contract information

What are some common challenges EDI analysts face when working on contract assignments, and how can they effectively navigate them?

EDI Analysts on contract often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to new systems, understanding company-specific EDI mappings, and collaborating with teams that have established workflows. To succeed, it's important to proactively communicate with stakeholders, thoroughly document processes, and stay updated on relevant EDI standards. Building rapport with IT, supply chain, and trading partners also helps resolve issues efficiently and ensures seamless data integration throughout the contract period.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an EDI analyst contract, and why are they important?

To thrive as an EDI Analyst (Contract), you need a solid understanding of electronic data interchange standards, data mapping, and business process analysis, often supported by a degree in IT, business, or a related field. Familiarity with EDI translators, integration tools (such as Gentran or Sterling), and knowledge of protocols like AS2 or FTP, as well as relevant certifications, are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help in troubleshooting and collaborating with trading partners and internal teams. These skills ensure seamless data integration, minimal transaction errors, and efficient business operations for clients or employers.

What is an EDI analyst contract?

EDI Analyst contracts are temporary employment agreements where professionals manage and support Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems for a company. These analysts ensure the smooth exchange of business documents between organizations through electronic means, troubleshoot EDI issues, and implement new EDI solutions as needed. Contract roles typically focus on project-based work or covering a specific resource gap within the organization and may last from a few months to over a year. EDI Analyst contractors are expected to have expertise in EDI standards, mapping, and communication protocols, and they often work with IT and business teams to maintain seamless data integration.

  • Lead and guide the work of technical staff, providing daily supervision and ensuring all deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Plan project stages and assess business implications for each stage, developing critical program documentation, including the Task Order Management Plan, Quality Control Plan (QCP), Transition Plans, and Telework Management Plans.
  • Monitor progress to ensure deadlines, standards, and cost targets are met on a Firm-Fixed-Price (FFP) contract.
  • Coordinate seamlessly with other department contract staff to ensure fully integrated IT support for EOIR.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of data infrastructure, engineering, governance, analytics, search, cybersecurity, and quality professionals.

Enterprise Data Architecture & Technical Leadership:
  • Design strategies for enterprise database systems and set standards for operations, programming, and security across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Design and construct data pipelines, ingestion processes (ETL/ELT), and data transformation rules, ensuring adherence to Government-approved data standards.
  • Establish data architecture standards and provide technical direction, design review, and oversight for data pipelines, ingestion processes, ETL/ELT workflows, transformation rules, and source-to-target traceability implemented by the engineering team.
  • Guide the integration and governed use of approved enterprise data sources across existing on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments, including logical views, APIs, pipelines, data stores, and semantic models, as applicable.
  • Integrate new systems with existing warehouse structures and refine system performance and functionality, guiding the continuous improvement of the EOIR data estate.
  • Drive the delivery of analytics, recurring/ad hoc reporting, and executive dashboards (utilizing tools such as Microsoft Power BI).
  • Enhance enterprise search and unstructured data discovery capabilities while ensuring strict compliance with access controls, DOJ, FISMA, and FedRAMP security requirements.
  • Lead enterprise data governance and quality management efforts, including the creation of metadata, data dictionaries, and data lineage documentation.
  • Lead current-state assessments of data infrastructure, management, governance, quality, analytics, reporting, and enterprise search capabilities; identify gaps and risks; and develop technology-neutral, mission-focused, and cost-conscious improvement roadmaps.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT Project/Program Management, preferably managing Firm-Fixed-Price (FFP) Federal contracts.

PM Certification: Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.

  • Demonstrated experience producing or leading enterprise data architectures and technical standards; data dictionaries, metadata catalogs, and lineage documentation; data-quality assessments and remediation plans; dashboards, performance measures, and executive reporting; enterprise-search assessments and improvement recommendations; current-state assessments and capability roadmaps; and Task Order Management Plans, Quality Control Plans, transition plans, and monthly status reports.

Soft Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex technical data concepts to non-technical Government executives.
Availability: Must be available during normal Government business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time) to serve as the contractor's authorized representative.
