Integration Engineer

Orbis Operations, LLC

Mclean, VA โ€ข Remote

$105K - $141K/yr

Full-time

Posted 12 days ago

Job description

Orbis is seeking an Integration Engineer to join a deployed integration team supporting an ongoing program for a government client in the Middle East. You will work alongside a Senior Integration Engineer who serves as your day-to-day technical lead and primary escalation point. In this role, you will participate directly in customer technical discovery sessions, contribute to the design and implementation of data connectors and integration plugins, and support deployment and validation of integrations across the customer environment. You are expected to execute assigned work with increasing autonomy while developing sharp judgment about when to bring in the Senior IE rather than pushing forward alone. Node deployment and platform infrastructure use provided tooling and established runbooks; your responsibility on the infrastructure side is correct configuration, validation, and first-level triage. Software-layer issues are escalated to the platform product team. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who executes well, learns fast, and understands that knowing when to flag a problem is as important as solving one.

THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION WITH INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL REQURIED

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute integration delivery for assigned data sources: requirements analysis, connector design, implementation, testing, deployment, and validation in the target environment

• Participate in customer technical discovery sessions alongside the Senior IE: contribute to mapping customer network topology, data sources, system dependencies, and operational constraints that inform integration and deployment decisions

• Implement data connectors and integration plugins (producer bridges, operators, consumer bridges) for assigned source systems across air, land, maritime, air defense, space, and cyber domains

• Develop judgment about when to proceed independently and when to flag the Senior IE; escalate ambiguity, blockers, or anything outside established patterns before it becomes a problem

• Deploy and validate integrations across customer environments (cloud-native, on-premises, and tactical edge) using provided Ansible and Helm tooling

• Stand up and configure platform nodes using established runbooks and provided deployment tooling; validate cluster health and configuration correctness post-deployment

• Contribute to Tier 1 team triage alongside the Senior IE; help diagnose integration-layer issues and support the team's characterization of problems before escalation

• Follow and contribute to integration documentation, runbooks, and onboarding guides

• Support customer technical exchanges within your integration domain under the direction of the Senior IE or Program Technical lead

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

2-4 years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on system integrations or data pipelines

• Proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python for integration development

• Demonstrated ability to deliver integration work with increasing independence under technical guidance

• Hands-on experience deploying and managing containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes/Helm)

• Strong debugging skills and the discipline to escalate when a problem exceeds your lane

• Strong collaboration and communication skills in distributed, remote, cross-functional teams

• Experience participating in customer-facing technical discovery or requirements gathering sessions

• Familiarity with defense data standards and protocols: ASTERIX, Cursor on Target (CoT), STANAG, radar UDP

• Background with military, law enforcement, or intelligence community operations and organizations

• Experience supporting international programs with distributed, cross-cultural teams

• Understanding of service mesh concepts, mTLS, and zero-trust network architectures

• Familiarity with edge-native deployment patterns and constrained operational environments

• Fluency with AI-assisted development tooling (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or equivalents) as part of daily engineering practice
