About the Role
As an Economic Development Professional within our Location Strategies practice, you'll provide consulting services to communities, economic development organizations, municipalities, counties, regional partnerships, and private-sector clients. You'll manage multiple client engagements while supporting strategic planning, business recruitment and expansion, tax incentive analysis, infrastructure financing strategies, and economic development policy initiatives. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker, exceptional communicator, highly organized project manager, and passionate advocate for community and economic growth.
What You'll Do
  • Lead and support community and regional economic development consulting projects.
  • Develop comprehensive economic development strategic plans and implementation strategies.
  • Conduct research and analysis related to business recruitment, retention, expansion, and site selection.
  • Analyze state and local tax incentive programs, credits, abatements, and financing tools.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, proposals, and client deliverables with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Facilitate stakeholder meetings, strategic planning sessions, workshops, and public presentations.
  • Perform economic, demographic, workforce, and market research to support client recommendations.
  • Assist clients in evaluating infrastructure, development opportunities, and competitive positioning.
  • Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local economic development policies and tax legislation.
  • Support grant development and economic development funding strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with public officials, utility providers, regional organizations, developers, and private industry.
  • Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation, conference presentations, and client relationship management.
  • Travel to client locations as needed.

About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Economic Development, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Business, Economics, Political Science, Finance, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in economic development, strategic planning, business attraction or retention, site selection, credits and incentives, or community development.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal economic development programs.
  • Experience analyzing tax incentive programs and economic development financing tools.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with experience preparing reports and professional client deliverables.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Advanced research and analytical capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • CEcD designation or progress toward certification is preferred.
  • Experience with Missouri Chapter 100, Chapter 353, Tax Increment Financing (TIF), Community Improvement Districts (CID), Transportation Development Districts (TDD), or similar economic development tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with state incentive programs throughout the Midwest is preferred.
  • Experience conducting labor market analysis, target industry analysis, or economic impact modeling is preferred.
  • Grant writing, grant administration, GIS, or economic data analysis experience is a plus.
  • Strategic thinking, professional judgment, accountability, collaboration, adaptability, and a commitment to client service.
  • Reside or be based in Kansas, Missouri, or Arkansas.
