What is an economic development manager?

Economic Development Managers are professionals responsible for planning and implementing strategies to boost economic growth within a community, city, or region. They work with government agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders to attract new investments, support local businesses, and create jobs. Their role often involves analyzing economic data, coordinating development projects, and promoting the area to potential investors. By fostering a healthy business environment, they help improve the overall quality of life for residents.

What are some common challenges economic development managers face when balancing community needs with business interests?

Economic Development Managers often navigate the complex task of balancing the goals of attracting new businesses and investments with the needs and concerns of the local community. Business Development Manager - Commercial, Multi-Level

FedEx Dataworks

$10K/mo

Full-time

Posted 12 days ago

Job description

About the Role - FedEx Dataworks operates as an entrepreneurial growth business within FedEx, developing new ways for organizations to unlock value from data, technology, and logistics intelligence. We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and commercially savvy professional to join our Commercial team as a Business Development Manager I, II, or III.ย

This is not a traditional sales role. As part of the team helping scale Meridian, you will play a pivotal role in building and refining the commercial model for a new business. Working at the intersection of strategy, customer engagement, and execution, you will cultivate key enterprise relationships, generate market validation, and help establish repeatable paths to customer adoption.ย

You will lead a portfolio of strategic customer engagements, helping organizations realize measurable value from Dataworks solutions while creating the customer success stories, market insights, and commercial momentum needed to accelerate growth.ย

Essential Functions

  • Prospect Research: Conduct market research to help identify potential customer or partner leads.ย ย
  • Bridge Product, Platform & Customer: Drive cross-functional collaboration within value delivery pods, working hand-in-hand with solution engineering, product, and platform teams to transform customer feedback and technical requirements from active pilots into actionable enhancements.ย
  • Build Playbooks: Identify and document best practices, repeatable processes, and success stories from your pilot portfolio to help build the foundational commercial blueprint.ย
  • Identify New Opportunities: Partner with fellow BDMs to evaluate prospective enterprise partners, ensuring a steady funnel of high-quality candidates for the pilot pipeline.ย
  • Data & CRM Support: Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of prospect interactions and pilot program data within our CRM system.ย
  • Articulate the Vision: Effectively engage and communicate the compelling vision of co-creation and joint innovation to procurement, data science, and supply chain leaders and decision-makers within partner organizations.ย

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experienceย

  • Strategic Solution Specialist: You bring expertise in enterprise data-to-insights-to-action signals and insights intelligence, decision-orchestration, enterprise ontologies, and supply chain products to guide complex enterprise transformations.ย
  • Relationship Builder: You are a skilled relationship manager who can independently navigate complex enterprise organizations and secure buy-in from multiple cross-functional stakeholders.ย
  • Ambiguity Adaptable: You thrive in fluid, fast-paced environments. You don't need a pre-existing playbook to be successful-you enjoy helping to write it.ย
  • Collaborator: You have a proven track record of working closely with technical teams (Solution Engineering, Product, Engineering, Data Science) to solve complex customer challenges.ย
  • Execution-Minded: You possess a strong balance of strategic thinking and relentless execution, capable of managing project details without losing sight of the big picture.ย

Minimum Educationย

For All Levels - Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) is required.ย ย

Minimum Experienceย

Business Development Manager I - 0-2 years of relevant experience or internships in fields such as business analysis, sales support, market research, or related area.ย ย

Business Development Manager II - Two (2) years of experience in business development, inside sales, market research, or a related role (experience in logistics, tech, or supply chain is a significant plus).ย

Business Development Manager III - Four (4) years of experience in business development, inside sales, market research, or a related role (experience in logistics, tech, or supply chain is a significant plus).ย
