Youth Site CoordinatorIn Control - Rochester, NY
Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY) protects and provides health care and education that empowers individuals and families. With respect. Without judgment. No matter what. 
In support of PPCWNY's mission, the Youth Site Coordinator (YSC) will work with the Health Education & Outreach Supervisor to develop, market, and implement educational and recreational programs at the In Control site for youth ages 11-19 years.  The YSC will be responsible for planning and facilitating programming, monitoring youth workers, planning meals, and maintaining a safe and clean environment in coordination with In Control.  The Youth Site Coordinator is responsible for understanding and communicating information about a wide range of sexuality and adolescent issues in alignment with PPCWNY and NYS Department of Health standards.  In addition, the YSC will represent In Control and PPCWNY on positive youth development issues throughout the Rochester community.

Essential Functions

  • Fosters a culture at In Control that is nurturing, supportive and inclusive, and that empowers youth to identify and utilize their individual strengths
  • Coordinates programming (i.e., social, recreational and educational activities) that is engaging and relevant to youth and their families in alignment with grant requirements 
  • Creates and distributes calendars, fliers, posters and other print materials and manage social media to promote In Control activities and events
  • Maintains effective networking and community outreach with appropriate agencies and community groups promoting In Control activities
  • Represents PPCWNY in a professional manner within the community (i.e., through memberships, conferences, planning committees, etc.) and use those opportunities to increase participation in programs and further agency goals
  • Provides linkage and referral for youth for educational, social, emotional, vocation and health services
  • Coordinates daily snacks and/or meals in compliance with grant requirements
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment that includes the general upkeep of the site (i.e., kitchen, floors, bathroom, garbage and snow removal) 
  • Assists Health Education and Outreach Supervisor in monitoring youth staff accountability (i.e., schedules, timecards, hiring and training) 
  • Assumes primary responsibility for maintenance of all records for programming activities that includes contact information, parent/guardian permissions, relevant health records, etc., and submit reports as required
  • Attends and participates in regular agency meetings, trainings and in-services 
  • Meets deadlines for requested written reports and required data entry 
  • Works effectively as a team member with the Health Education and Outreach Supervisor and other department members

  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation and others

Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):


Education-

  1. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in health sciences, human services, psychology, sociology, communications, public relations preferred, or
  2. Equivalent combination of education and experience or one of the following equivalencies:
  • 3 years work experience in a community educator role and cultural competence with a demographic population, or
  • 2 years work experience in a PPCWNY program and cultural competence with a demographic population.

Experience-

  1. 1-2 years experience overseeing and/or leading positive youth development programming preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable of educational techniques involving group dynamics; comfort with the subjects of sexuality and youth-related issues  
  • Capable of working independently and cooperatively to meet established goals  
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate well and establish rapport quickly with people, especially youth; PPCWNY seeks individuals who have demonstrated experience building an inclusive and respectful organizational culture that leverages diversity
  • Prior marketing/community relations experience desired
  • PPCWNY seeks candidates who have experience delivering care in ways that honor and respect LGBTQ communities
  • Experience working with diverse racial and socio-economic populations, including African Americans, Hispanics or other racial and ethnic groups strongly desired
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and travel to multiple sites, meetings, field trips, etc., as needed 
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to plan and implement programs from the ground up are essential 
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Familiarity with Rochester neighborhoods and organizations 
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office for internal and external communication and social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate teen groups and programs

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position (40 hrs per week), Monday-Friday with variable times based on youth programming including some evenings and holidays.

Actual compensation will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
