Specialty Ecommerce Supervisor - High Value Goods
Goodwill of Greater New York & Northern New Jersey
Position Overview
The Specialty Ecommerce Supervisor - High Value Goods is responsible for overseeing the processing, authentication, testing, listing, and sale of the highest value donated items within Goodwill's ecommerce operation. This role leads a specialized team responsible for handling complex product categories including authentication, jewelry, and electronics, ensuring items are accurately evaluated, properly tested, securely stored, and listed to extract the maximum possible value for Goodwill's mission.
The Specialty Ecommerce Supervisor plays a critical role in protecting company assets, ensuring strict handling, storage, and verification processes are followed when dealing with high-value items. The role requires strong product knowledge, operational discipline, and the ability to coach team members in complex listing standards and testing procedures.
Through strong leadership and operational excellence, this position ensures that high-value goods are processed safely, accurately, and efficiently while maximizing resale value and protecting the organization from loss, fraud, or misrepresentation.
Key Responsibilities
Specialty Product Operations
  • Oversee the daily operations of specialized ecommerce categories including:

  • Authentication (luxury goods and branded merchandise)

  • Jewelry

  • Electronics

  • Supervise team members responsible for testing, sorting, authenticating, pricing, listing, and selling high-value items.

  • Ensure all specialty items are accurately evaluated and processed according to category-specific standards.

  • Maintain strong controls around chain-of-custody, storage, and handling of high-value inventory.

  • Ensure products are tested thoroughly, documented properly, and listed with accurate descriptions and conditions to protect the organization and ensure customer trust.

  • Oversee the creation of complex listings that accurately describe specialty items and highlight key value attributes to maximize selling price.

  • Ensure high-value items are priced appropriately using market research, historical sales data, and marketplace trends.

Asset Protection & Inventory Control
  • Ensure the secure handling, storage, and tracking of high-value inventory.

  • Implement and maintain strict asset protection practices, including:

  • Secure storage areas

  • Access control for high-value inventory

  • Accurate inventory tracking

  • Documentation of testing and authentication

  • Conduct regular audits of high-value inventory to ensure accuracy and prevent loss.

  • Ensure items are handled and stored in ways that protect condition and value.

  • Partner with leadership to investigate discrepancies or potential asset loss.

Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure listings accurately represent items and protect the organization from disputes, returns, or marketplace compliance issues.

  • Confirm that authentication and testing procedures meet marketplace standards and internal policies.

  • Ensure product listings include proper condition reporting, testing notes, and accurate product details.

  • Monitor customer feedback and returns related to specialty items to identify improvement opportunities.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, train, and coach the specialty ecommerce team responsible for authentication, jewelry, and electronics categories.

  • Develop team members' product knowledge, listing accuracy, testing standards, and value extraction strategies.

  • Provide ongoing coaching on complex listings, authentication procedures, and technical product evaluation.

  • Ensure team members follow operational procedures and maintain strong attention to detail.

  • Create a culture of accountability, quality, and asset stewardship.

Business Performance & Value Maximization
  • Drive revenue growth from high-value ecommerce categories by ensuring donated goods are properly evaluated and monetized.

  • Identify opportunities to increase value extraction through improved testing, bundling, pricing strategies, and marketplace placement.

  • Monitor performance of specialty categories and implement improvements to increase sell-through and average selling price.

  • Stay informed on market trends and resale demand within luxury goods, jewelry, and electronics categories.

Qualifications
Required Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in ecommerce, resale retail, or specialty product categories.

  • Experience working with luxury goods, jewelry, electronics, or authentication processes strongly preferred.

  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing operational teams.

  • Experience creating or managing complex ecommerce listings.

  • Experience evaluating product condition, testing functionality, or verifying authenticity.

  • Experience working with ecommerce platforms such as ShopGoodwill, eBay, or other marketplaces preferred.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of resale product categories and secondary market values.

  • Ability to recognize high-value goods and maximize resale value.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain strict asset control procedures.

  • Experience with authentication, testing, or product verification processes.

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.

  • Ability to train staff on complex listing and product evaluation standards.

  • Excellent organizational and inventory management skills.

  • Ability to work with high-value goods responsibly and securely.
