About The Role

As a Controller, you will oversee a pod of Accounting Managers, bookkeepers, and a book of clients. You will be the main support and direction for your team, so it is imperative that you are an outstanding communicator and have strong business acumen paired with Accounting Expertise. You will be responsible for the timely delivery of weekly and monthly financial reporting to clients via your team and will serve as an escalation point, strategic advisor, and thought partner for your clients. You will be responsible for the accuracy of the data presented and are the last stop for quality control of deliverables. The most successful candidate will be a proven leader and will have a strong background in a multi-client environment, e-commerce, and be extremely tech-savvy with a focus on creating automations and efficiencies utilizing technology and AI tools.

Responsibilities

This role is solutions-oriented and requires proactive engagement to ensure client success.

  • Oversee month-end close and all key accounting-related activities for your pod

  • Financial Package Review: Reviewing Management Reports with Key Metrics

  • Accounting Package Review: Ensuring proper reconciliations for ALL balance sheet accounts and trend analysis for both the balance sheet and P&L

  • Inventory Management Review: Including reconciling inventory (Physical, Sub to GL), Inventory write off and Obsolescence adjustments, and reviewing individual product costs and ensuring accuracy in inventory software and systems.

  • Review Accounts Receivable processing and aging reports (no collections)

  • Review Accounts Payable processing and aging reports and bill payments in Bill.com (or related software) for clients

  • Review Payroll Processing, including journal entries and accruals

  • Provide ad hoc reports or details as requested

  • Provide Dashboards and KPIs to clients

  • Help clients develop SOPs around finance and accounting best practices

  • Educate clients on their financial situation and be a thought partner for solutions and a strategic advisor

  • Oversee client communications and serve as an escalation point

  • Supervise and train team on client and administrative duties

  • Develop SOPs and training documents and contribute to the internal team as a thought partner

  • Lead training sessions

  • Strategically lead your team in creating efficiencies, building automations, and ensuring AI enablement where possible.

  • Manage a budget for your pod

  • Maintain clean files and document storage

Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting

  • 2+ years of experience in a multi-client or consulting role

  • 2+ years of experience leading a team

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required

  • Advanced level expertise in QBO and Excel required

  • NetSuite and Xero experience highly valued

  • Experience with e-commerce clients is required

  • Experience with typical e-commerce tech stack, like Shopify, Amazon, PayPal, bill.com, etc. required

  • Experience with Wholesale and retail platforms like SPS Commerce, Target, etc. highly valued

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and a firm grasp of accounting best practices required

  • Audit and/or Due Diligence Support experience highly valued

  • Solid understanding of financial statements and how to evaluate them required

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills required

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time in a remote work environment required
