Job description

Senior Ecommerce Manager / Director of Ecommerce
Title and level will be determined based on experience.
About the Opportunity
Our client, an established company in the furniture industry, is launching a new direct-to-consumer ecommerce business and is looking for an experienced ecommerce leader to help build and grow the business from the ground up.
This role may be hired at the Senior Ecommerce Manager or Director of Ecommerce level, depending on the candidate's experience, leadership background, and depth of business ownership. We are open to both an accomplished Senior Manager ready to take the next step in their career and an experienced Director who has previously owned and scaled a DTC ecommerce business.
Regardless of title, this will be a highly visible, hands-on role with meaningful ownership across the DTC business. The person will report directly to senior leadership and initially manage a combination of freelancers and operational resources, with the opportunity to build out additional internal and external capabilities as the business grows.
The first several months will focus heavily on bringing the ecommerce site to market and establishing the infrastructure, processes, marketing strategy, and customer experience needed to create a scalable DTC business.
What You'll Own
Launch & Grow the DTC Business
  • Help lead the strategy, development, and launch of a new DTC ecommerce business and website.
  • Build and execute an ecommerce roadmap spanning site experience, merchandising, marketing, operations, and customer growth.
  • Own the day-to-day performance of the ecommerce business while identifying longer-term opportunities for growth.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting across revenue, traffic, conversion, AOV, customer acquisition, retention, and profitability.
  • Analyze performance and customer behavior to identify opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
Ecommerce & Customer Experience
  • Lead the development and ongoing optimization of the DTC ecommerce site.
  • Partner with developers, freelancers, and other resources to manage site functionality, integrations, content, and enhancements.
  • Own the onsite customer journey, including navigation, merchandising, product detail pages, promotions, checkout, and conversion optimization.
  • Develop an ongoing testing roadmap to improve conversion rate, customer experience, and revenue.
  • Identify ecommerce technologies and tools that can improve performance and enable future growth.
Digital Marketing & Growth
  • Own or oversee digital marketing across paid media, email/SMS, retention, and other customer acquisition channels.
  • Develop strategies to efficiently acquire new customers while improving CAC, ROAS, and customer lifetime value.
  • Build lifecycle and retention programs designed to increase engagement and repeat purchase.
  • Partner with creative resources to develop campaigns, offers, landing pages, and performance-driven content.
  • Continuously test and optimize audiences, channels, creative, messaging, and marketing investment.
Business & Financial Performance
  • Take an active role in revenue planning, forecasting, budgeting, and profitability for the DTC business.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the economics of the channel, including gross margin, marketing efficiency, contribution margin, and customer acquisition costs.
  • Partner closely with leadership on business planning and investment decisions.
  • At the Director level, assume broader ownership of the ecommerce P&L and overall DTC growth strategy.
Operations & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Partner closely with operations on inventory, fulfillment, shipping, returns, and customer service.
  • Develop the ecommerce merchandising and promotional calendar based on product priorities, inventory, seasonality, and business goals.
  • Coordinate freelancers and external resources supporting the ecommerce business.
  • Over time, help identify and manage agency partners and determine the internal team structure needed to support growth.
  • Collaborate across leadership, operations, product, creative, and finance to move ecommerce initiatives forward.
What We're Looking For
  • Strong ecommerce experience within a DTC, consumer, retail, or digitally driven brand.
  • Experience managing and growing an ecommerce site, with a strong understanding of the full digital customer journey.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ecommerce platforms, digital merchandising, analytics, conversion optimization, and ecommerce technology.
  • Experience with digital marketing, particularly paid acquisition and email/lifecycle marketing.
  • Strong analytical and commercial instincts with an understanding of metrics such as revenue, conversion rate, AOV, CAC, ROAS, LTV, and profitability.
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining highly hands-on in execution.
  • Experience managing freelancers, agencies, vendors, or cross-functional partners.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to build structure in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience launching a new ecommerce business, site, or significant digital initiative is highly valued.
  • Furniture, home furnishings, home goods, or considered-purchase category experience is a plus.
How We'll Think About Level
Senior Ecommerce Manager
A strong fit may be someone who has successfully managed a meaningful ecommerce business or channel and is ready to expand their ownership. This person will likely bring strong hands-on ecommerce and digital marketing expertise, excellent execution capabilities, and the ambition to grow into broader business and P&L leadership.
Director of Ecommerce
A strong fit at the Director level will likely have demonstrated experience owning the strategy and commercial performance of a DTC ecommerce business. This person should be comfortable with broader P&L responsibility, executive-level decision-making, agency and team leadership, and building the infrastructure required to scale the business.
For either level, we're looking for a builder. The right person will be energized by the opportunity to create a DTC business from the ground up, comfortable moving between strategy and execution, and excited to take on increasing ownership as the business scales.

Salary: $100-170k dependent on level and experience
