Job description

Title: Assistant Group Leader

Reports To: Program Director, PS 297

Location: 700 Park Ave Brooklyn, NY 11206

Hours: Up to 35 hours/Week; Non-Exempt;

Schedule: Summer / July through Mid - August

Monday-Friday

Salary: $17.00 / hour

Job Summary: The Summer Camp Assistant Group Leader is responsible for the overall safety, development, management, organization and planning of their group. This includes integrated educational projects, recreation, arts and crafts and group building activities.

Major Duties:

  • Assist the group leader with engaging activities, including sports and recreation, educational, arts and craft and special events

  • Collect attendance folder and other data as necessary

  • Supervise participants throughout summer camp program

  • Distribute snacks and assist with clean-up

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program and upholding the afterschool model

  • Support activity instructor(s) with lessons.

  • Collaborate with group leader to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

  • Follows all GSS, DYCD and SACC regulations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must demonstrate reliable and consistent work habits, and ability to work with other youth.

  • Must be available during the program hours listed above.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic team environment.

  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
