Position Summary

The Material Specialist position is responsible for executing day-to-day activities in support of warehouse operations including, but not limited to, inventory control, issues, receiving, transfers, chemical inventory and, if applicable, equipment and tools. Assuring inventory accuracy is a critical aspect of the position which includes physical inventory and chemical inventory processes. The job activity ensures the safe movement and handling of required parts and maintenance materials into and out of Duke Energy Facilities. The successful Materials Specialist candidate ensures work priorities are established and adhered to for those activities associated with material handling processes and systems.

The Material Specialist will have excellent communication skills and is expected to work effectively with plant management and staff to prioritize, schedule and implement activities related with day-to-day operations and maintenance activities within the Power Generation facility.

The Material Specialist will be a self-starter and customer-driven to support the supply chain organization and the generation plant operations customers. Also required is the ability to learn new processes and systems within Supply Chain operations including MAXIMO and EMAX applications. This person will be responsible for maintaining excellent communications and relationships with supply chain site procurement and site operations to ensure the efficient flow of commodities in and out of Duke Energy Facilities.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • High School/GED degree

  • Maintain a valid driver's license for occasional use of company vehicles

  • Ability to successfully complete fork-lift, safety, environmental and supply chain-related training

  • Lifting requirements of 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications
  • Warehouse experience

  • Self-motivated and able to work productively with some direct supervision

  • Experience in interacting with a diverse range of contacts, including managers, non-managers, and external customers. Proven ability to anticipate and respond effectively to customer request, which may include inquiries received in person, via phone and/or in writing

  • Good communication skills including ability to effectively interact with management, teammates, and customers

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to constantly changing conditions, such as time pressures. Must be able to prioritize both long-term and short-term task with varying levels of urgency from multiple team members, balanced along with normal duties

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, along with good verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills including windows-based applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, consider resolutions and take the necessary steps to solve the problems

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of inventory systems and/or work management systems

Working Conditions
  • Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at the assigned company facility.

  • Works inside warehouse and outside yard environment including all weather conditions and possibly extreme hot and cold temperatures

  • Work hours subject to change, based on customer needs which are subject to rotating shift, overtime, emergency call out and weekend coverage

  • Frequent contact with dust (coal, dirt, etc.) and fly ash for Power Generation Positions

  • Job requires frequent walking, bending, kneeling, pulling, and climbing ladders.

  • Must be able to arrive at work location within a maximum of thirty (30) minutes once called for emergency call-out when scheduled for on-call duty during nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
