Job description

Who We Are

SmartDrone, founded in 2020 by experienced executives in the commercial drone industry, develops advanced aerial digitization solutions for commercial and industrial applications. Our technology combines unmanned aircraft systems, LiDAR, and onboard processing to help customers efficiently capture and transform real-world data into actionable digital models.

SmartDrone has completed projects and sold drones to hundreds of customers across 28 states and continues to expand its market presence. Our NDAA-compliant drones are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Tyler, Texas.

We are growing our sales organization and are looking for a motivated, technically capable sales professional who can help introduce SmartDrone's technology to new customers and expand our footprint in commercial and industrial markets.

About the Position

SmartDrone is seeking a Field Sales Executive – Drone Solutions to drive new business development and sales of our commercial drone technology.

This is a sales-focused position requiring a combination of proven B2B sales ability, technical aptitude, strong customer-facing skills, and hands-on drone experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing prospects, understanding customer needs, conducting product demonstrations, advancing opportunities through the sales process, and ultimately helping convert qualified prospects into SmartDrone customers.

Because demonstrating our technology is an important part of the sales process, this position also requires the ability to operate SmartDrone aircraft, conduct customer demonstrations, provide product training, and travel extensively to customer locations.

The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between a conference room and a jobsite—building relationships with decision-makers, discussing business and technical requirements, demonstrating the product in the field, and asking for the sale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage new B2B sales opportunities for SmartDrone products and solutions.
  • Prospect for and identify potential customers within targeted commercial and industrial markets.
  • Build relationships with prospective customers, decision-makers, technical users, and other stakeholders.
  • Understand a prospective customer's operations, challenges, and business needs and effectively communicate how SmartDrone's technology can provide value.
  • Manage opportunities throughout the sales cycle, from initial contact and qualification through demonstration, follow-up, negotiation, and closing.
  • Conduct professional product presentations and customer meetings both remotely and in person.
  • Travel to customer and prospective customer locations to perform drone demonstrations, evaluations, and training.
  • Plan and perform flight operations and data collection activities associated with customer demonstrations and field support.
  • Clearly explain SmartDrone's technology, capabilities, applications, and value proposition to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain consistent communication and follow-up with prospects throughout the sales process.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of customer activity, sales opportunities, follow-up activities, and pipeline status within the Company's CRM.
  • Work closely with Company leadership, product, operations, and technical teams to address customer questions and advance sales opportunities.
  • Provide feedback from prospects and customers regarding market needs, competitive products, potential product improvements, and emerging opportunities.
  • Assist with customer onboarding and training following a sale to help ensure a successful customer experience.
  • Represent SmartDrone professionally at customer locations, demonstrations, industry events, trade shows, and other Company activities.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of SmartDrone products, services, technology, competitive positioning, and relevant industry developments.
  • Ensure all flight activities comply with FAA regulations, Company policies, safety requirements, and operating procedures.
  • Meet or exceed established sales goals and performance expectations.
  • Perform other sales, customer, and field-related duties as needed to support the Company's growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated business-to-business (B2B) sales experience.
  • Proven ability to develop customer relationships and advance opportunities through a sales process.
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to actively prospect, pursue new business, and ask for the sale.
  • The ability to obtain an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate under Part 107 (we can help you with this).
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50%–60%, including overnight travel.
  • Valid driver's license with no major infractions and ability to travel to customer and demonstration locations.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn and explain sophisticated technology.
  • Comfortable conducting product demonstrations and interacting directly with prospective and existing customers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple prospects, customer commitments, and follow-up activities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining communication and coordination with the broader SmartDrone team.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B2B sales experience involving industrial products, technology, technical equipment, hardware, software, or other complex solutions.
  • Experience selling to customers in construction, surveying, engineering, mapping, infrastructure, utilities, mining, or other commercial or industrial markets.
  • Experience with drones, unmanned aircraft systems, LiDAR, photogrammetry, surveying, GIS, CAD, or related technologies.
  • Experience conducting technical product demonstrations or field-based sales presentations.
  • Experience selling products or solutions that require customer education, demonstrations, or a consultative sales approach.
  • Existing relationships within industries that could benefit from commercial drone or aerial data solutions.
  • Industry-recognized certifications or technical training related to drones, surveying, mapping, construction, GIS, or similar fields.

Physical and Field Requirements

This position includes regular field demonstrations and customer training. The employee must be able to:

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Walk over jobsites, undeveloped property, and uneven or rough terrain.
  • Stand and work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely transport, set up, operate, and pack drone and related equipment.
  • Travel by automobile and commercial air transportation as required.

Compensation

The position offers a $75,000 annual base salary plus incentive compensation.

The anticipated first year (OTE) approximately $100,000 when established sales performance goals are achieved.

Additional earning potential may be available based on sales performance and the Company's applicable sales compensation plan.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position is not measured simply by the number of demonstrations performed or flights completed. The primary objective of the role is to generate revenue and grow SmartDrone's customer base.

The successful candidate will consistently develop qualified opportunities, conduct effective demonstrations, maintain disciplined follow-up, build strong customer relationships, and convert prospective customers into SmartDrone customers while representing the Company professionally in both sales and field environments.
